Thanks Dave I will do some checking. Also Dave Wessell said that you do have to be a member to sign up for the giveaway but it only takes one post to qualify to be a member and that post can be signing up for the giveway. I am also going to check on how many posts some of these people have.
Later and this could be an interesting research,

Might be easier in the future to put a "clause" in the give-away such as "must have joined at least X months ago" or " must have at least X amount of posts"..... Just a thought.

+1 to the posts. If it is made a nominal number say 3 or 5, it might just work..
400 entries!!!

Most folks are honest but we always get a few that post from the same subnet but we are giving away espresso machines, grinders, coffee subscriptions, usually several thousand in gear. We have some very good sponsors.

Statistics for the 22 winners.
Below is the note with the stats of the first 22 winners that I sent to Lynn, Don and the Super Mods.
Statistics for 22 winners:
1. Joined the same period as the giveaway: 2 = 1%
2. Became a member two full months before the giveaway started: 15 = 68% (For example: Giveaway starting 8/1/08 and becoming a member before 6/1/08 two full months before the giveaway started.)
3. Not a member anymore: 1 = 0.5%
4. Stayed somewhat active (>100 total posts) 7 = 32% (Don't know how many they had when they signed up for the giveaway)
5. Recent activity within the past two months prior to this study of 3/12/09: 19 = 86% (Recent Activity = Just logging in and posting or just looking around.)
6. Posted within two months prior to this study of 3/12/09: 15 = 68%
7. Other people using the same IP address: 3 = 14%
Personally I don't think that there is much of problem in relation to the above study. As I mentioned in my previous message to Don there was a concern that people were becoming a member just to try to win the prizes and also creating shill accounts. I am not saying that this isn't the case but looking a the statistics of the winners above this isn't the case right now. These giveaways attract new members plus if a newbie wins then it gives them something to start out with in there quest to learn more about straight razor shaving. Let me know what you think.

NO they are not. I do check to see if they are a member, which by the way they cannot sign up unless they are, and I am now checking the IP addresses of the winners and if they do have a shill account they will most likely be banned and the next person in line will go to the winners list. I asked Dave if there was a way to check the IP address of all that signed up and he said you would have to check each person which does take a while. So by checking only the winners IP address I suppose that is about as close as we can get. I can check for double posts by clicking on one button and it displays all that have posted more than once which is quite handy and I also send that person a PM stating that I am deleting his last post/s.
