Thanked: 0Retails stores in New York City
Can anyone recommend retail stores in New York City to purchase straight razors and shaving supplies. I like to hold and examine the fine instruments before purchasing. Have already been to AOS, looking for more of a selection at reasonable prices.
Thanks

Hi Steve, The Victorinox here in Westchester carries Dovo razors. You might want to check the location in the city. Needless to say, the prices are really high. I don't know of any other places in the city besides AOS that might carry them. I'm sure there are some tucked away here and there.
As for other supplies, you must get yourself to Pasteur's(sp?) Pharmacy and Cambridge Chemists. Pasteur's has a store at 34th and Park and another around 62nd or so and Lex. Cambridge is nearby at around 65th-ish and Lex. They both carry a huge selection of great creams, soaps, scents, etc. It's like heaven! They also carry Simpson brushes, but again you'll do a lot better for prices on-line.
I try to buy a few things from both stores each year, even if their prices are higher - just to support them. Gawd only knows what kind of rent they're paying and we're better off having them around.
Also, check out the Penhaligon's counter at Saks. Penhaligon's is one of my favorite makers of high-end English shaving soaps and unique, fantastic scents.
Bring your wallet and enjoy!
Oh, and welcome to the forum

Thanked: 0Just found this list on the D.R. Harris website:
Leo Design
413 Bleecker Street
Aedes de Venuustas
9 Christopher Street
CO Bigelow Chemists
414 6th Avenue (between 8 & 9)
New London Pharmacy
246 8th Avenue (between 22 & 23)
Pasteur Pharmacy
53 East 34th Street
Lexington Avenue Chemists
806 Lexington Avenue (between 62 & 63)
Cambridge Chemists
855 Lexington Avenue (between 64 & 65)
Boyds
309 Columbus Avenue (between 74 & 75)
I would imagine they carry more than D.R. Harris but I do not know other than the ones already mentioned

Thanked: 0Interesting that it is difficult to find a shop which also sells razors, either straight or double edge. Must be the restrictive NYC knife laws limit the types of knife shops which would carry these items.

Thanked: 4Greetings,
Is there any place (analog storefront) that has a wide selection of razors? I think SteveS99 alluded to this but it seems that places like Art of Shaving carries only its own brand. Do Cambridge and Pasteur carry straight razors?
Thanks,
Derek

I would think that there is a fairly limited market for cutthroat razors in any city. Shops will usually only stock items with a reasonable turnover, especially in high rent districts. Apart from London, there are very few retail shops in the UK which stock cutthroat razors.
