Thanked: 156Where does RAD end, and where does collection begin?
Or are the two differing degrees of each other?
I ask this because I feel like I am leaning towards a razor collection rather than just having a nice rotation. For every four razors that I try and find I can live without, I find one that is just so unique that I must keep it. If this keeps going for years, I foresee having 100's of razors in my rotation, and then its not a rotation anymore, thats just a collection I shave with.
Thoughts?

Thanked: 13249I think you hit the nail on the head there.....
If it is still rotating then it is RAD, if they are sitting there, it is a collection...

I find for me that it is kind of blending one to the other. I tend to be way more discriminating towards what I will pick up now but I don't get a razor unless I intend to use it. OTOH, I have always had a collection of one thing or another since I was knee high.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

RAD ends?!?!!! Well, there's still hope then
I thought collection was just the politically correct way to say it and continue living in denial.

Thanked: 1195To me there is little point of owning something if you don't use it, so even if I had a collection of 100's of razors they would all be shave ready and good to go. But that's a lot of honing

To me there is a distinction between a collector and an enthusiast. An enthusiast buys whatever strikes his fancy. Usually with no rhyme or reason to what he acquires. A collector usually has some goal and specializes like getting every DD ever produced or every stainless razor ever made or maybe every Spanish razor ever made something like that. This is besides the issue of are you a user or not.

I fancy myself a collector.
I have 14 razors there about.
My goal is to get a razor that is 3/8 to 8/8. including a Japanese straight. With a wedge or two and a Barbers Use only.
I have all but the 3/8 and 8/8. Once those are had, I am done. I may pick up some hard luck cases because I enjoy the restoration, and then sell them here, but other than that I am done. That amount gives me a nice collection, and a nice rotation and some happiness in the morning.

My problem is, I can't get rid of anything. I call myself a collector, but will admit to RAD. I have around 50 or so, I haven't counted lately.
I guess we could call it RCAD? I keep 7-9 in rotation, then change them out for another 9.We have assumed control !

I am in the "if you use it, or plan on using it, you aren't a collector" camp on this one.
That being said, my rotation is getting large enough that I must oil my blades with choji to keep em from rusting as they go between uses.
