    Default Hydrogen Peroxide Strange Results

I had some acne, and some dried blood on my face from my shave. I decided to splash some hydrogen peroxide on my face. All of a sudden, my face was full of scratches. It seemed that every scratch I had from the last few months all of a sudden showed up.

I got scared, and I thought that I had just had the worst shave of my life. I was thinking, I do not remember scratching myself in all of those places when I shaved.

After about 30 minutes, I looked at my face and the scratches were gone.

    It was really strange.

Has this happened to anyone else?

Do you find yourself craving human blood?

    Does garlic repel you?

I have to add one more to Slarti's list.

    Have been off your meds?

In short. No I have never used peroxide as an A/S or witchhazel alternative. It would not surprise me to learn of this. Considering the properties of Peroxide.

Peroxide is an oxidizer. When it hits an open cut it immediately starts killing white blood cells. Some one correct me, this is what I was told. It would not surprise me that you have acne and that you had this reaction. Some of the smaller pusstuols may have ruptured during the shave and the resultant splash brought the butchery to the surface.

Peroxide is a very strong bleaching agent. It will dissolve blood (making a very white foam) on contact. I would not use it on your skin as a toner, etc. It can cause burns and skin reactions, even in therapeutic concentrations like 3%. It probably found very tiny scratches you caused during shaving. Best not to use it on your face.

Not yet, but it just sounds too cool. I'm gonna try it when I get home.

    Edit: or maybe not...

Hydrogen peroxide is an old time treatment for cuts and scrapes. You just pour it on the scrape and it foams up liberating oxygen and killing most bad bacteria. I would not use it as an aftershave though.

It's kinda humorous to read the responses to this thread:

"Yeah, peroxide kills bacteria and makes the bleeding stop and is good for cuts and it's been used for decades to disinfect wounds."

    Followed by:

    "Don't use it."

Don't get me wrong, I totally understand why not to use it. Just sounds humorous, is all.

The reason that we no longer use H202 in hospitals for wound care is that it actually delays healing by destroying tissue. (I am an RN)
Can you imagine using Merthiolate for an aftershave, though?! OWwwwww!!!! Imagine the bright red face, full of revealed and angry lacerations...your family would run screaming!

That explains it. I was not using it as aftershave. I decided to rub it all over my face instead of just on the acne.

Oh Well. Another lesson is learned.
