Cool Retro-Fitted Cigar Box Holds 10 Razors

so i made a balsa prototype, a little different, this is second draft.

the bottom pieces are 1/4 cedar and they are elevated 1/4 inch.
the rest is poplar walnut, and maple.
its going to be lined with 1 piece of silk.
they get snugger towards the back. my 6/8 boker fits in all of them, snug in smaller ones, loose in larger ones.

and its removeable if i ever want the box for somethin else.
im also going to make a cushioend panel for the top, so youll open the box, remove the cushioned panel. itll hold them in there slots snugly.
the box import tag is stamped '73.

    Thanks!
its just to get it all worked out, i want to make a couple more intricate, perhaps carved and contoured,
its just so i can see what i like and dont like about this style box.
one thing i see i dont like is that i could have fit more razors with narrower dividers.

I was out shopping for just such a box today. Not much luck. I was thinking of using elastic cording woven through the bottom panel to keep everything in place, including my hones.

If you buy some cigars at the shop some of the stores will throw them in for free.

Great idea! It's hard to tell from the photo, but it almost looks like you could make a second layer for another row of razors. I have a few cigar boxes that I think are just nice to look at so I kept them - now I have a practical use for them as well!

You mentioned lining it with silk, do you mean the bottom as well? I have a box from TI that's beautiful but the bottom is a rough wood finish - no idea why they'd not line it with felt. Got my wife to cut me up 7 strips of black felt to line it with ad it now looks great and prevents scratching of the scales. Please pop another photo once you have it lined.

yea ok no problem, i just got to go pick out fabric. im really good at lining with fabric, ive done the interiors of several of my cars myself.

the plan right now is super simple, im gonna take a strip of silk, fasten both ends to rails that will fit on top of the rails that reinforce the slots. then, a flat panel on top, with a cushioned bottom.,the fabric will simply be tucked and folded into place, no adhesives. except at the ends.

ill show you what i mean, ill even take a couple pics on what im talkin bout.
its gonna be a pretty nice, fits any-sized razor box.

Very creative...Yes, you can pick up cigar boxes usually for free from any local cigar shop. You won't find any from '73 there though.
