    Lightbulb R.A.D. prevention

I think I have discovered the way to prevent full blown RAD. Of course, I've found it too late for myself, and for pretty much anybody who reads this.....

I made a few really dumb purchases early on, and finally got a shave ready henkels from the classifieds here.

    I was content.

Bought a few trash blades to "play" with while figuring out several ways to accidentally damage razor beyond repair with a dremel.

    Still content.

Spent lots of time looking at all the wonderful razors folks have around here.

Felt a twinge of longing here and there, but still mostly content.

Bought a second shave ready from another member here. Received in the mail, and promptly scraped a day's stubble off my mug.

    Now I'm screwed.

That was the breaking point. A second shave-ready razor. Within just a few hours of shaving with #2, I had already purchased #3 in the classified. I've got a sharp and shiny frame back winging it's way to me soon.

There you go guys. If you want to avoid RAD, buy one razor, and keep your nose out of the classifieds. Once you shave with number two, it's too late.

    Well, there IS another way.

It's called not having any money.

I'm not sure that counts. That sounds to me like saying a crack head is only a crack head when they've got money to buy crack.

The best way to avoid RAD is to buy razors with the intention of cleaning them up and moving them along, you end up shaving with all sorts of stuff but get really picky about the ones you actually want to keep. That's what I've found anyway.

It helps if you get different stuff early on so you can figure out your preferences.

I have a better way. Go to a hypnotist and be broken of the straight habit and switch to a cartridge razor and as an act of contrition send all your straights and gear to me and I'll bury them in my back yard.

I may be the exception to the rule, I had one razor for 6 months, bought my 2nd razor a month ago on the classifieds and now I have absolutely no desire to buy another razor. I'm not sure how long this will last but so far so good

Yep, That's how I started out. Hope you have better luck then I did. I can only say avoid antique shops. Few good finds will have you looking in the yellow pages for more.
