Hahaha!! Yep, resistance is futile. Spike got the jump on me by about a month. I was fascinated from the start when he had his first straight, then he got me my first for my birthday last year.
I love my straights and so does Spike, fortunately so far we haven't had a row over who's turn it is next to get shaving goodies! Besides............... I WOULD WIN!!

I want a girl friend that is thoughtful enough to spend 9+ hours making sure the gift she's getting me the right one.
I'd say learning with him or learning ahead both have their merits, you could go either way.
I would say you should learn (in time) to shave him. The thought of a woman shaving her man with a straight razor sounds damn sexy.

Talk her into letting you shave her legs, just a little, and then let her finish up with her usual disposable and see if she doesn't notice the difference. Good luck!
It is easier to fool people than to convince them they have been fooled. Twain

Are you sure you want to do this? I love to share but some guys are very protective of their den/gear. If you are willing to share everything 100% then do it. The reason I ask is, I shaved a little portion of a troublesome area (no not there) and lost that razor for good. I have been told to not touch it any longer unless working on the edge. The proraso also came up missing. She has since shaved me with a DE, WOW that was nice!!! She asked me "why in the *?$# does anyone shave with a mach 3 thingy when these exist?" She then became angry our generation was not introduced to these (straights and DE). SHE IS NOW ONE OF US!!! I urge you to help her see the light but beware of the financial impact. Just shave on troublesome area for her and be sure to "do it right, prep work". Make it pleasurable and you will achieve your goal.
