Doesn't that mean it's a cheap Pakistani IMPROVEMENT on the Bergischer Loewe? (Man, I have to set up some kind of Umlaut macro or something...)

I'm wondering if Robin is hitting the schnapps tonight ? Pronounced to rhyme with cops.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Online dictionaries might help, e.g. dict.cc | schleifen | Deutsch-Wörterbuch. German pronunciation - the standard German dialect, that is - is mostly very easy, ie "you pronounce it as it is written" according to this set of rules: German phonology - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. Same for English, only you have know Old and Middle English, and understand things like the Great Vowel Shift - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia - then it all becomes clear, even things like "knight" (kni:çt)

I don't know how often this comes up in the straight razor world, but I feel there is one more VERY IMPORTANT thing to point out.

ß is is no way related to B. It functions as a double s, but the two are not interchangeable. And it isn't at the beginning of any words, so if you can't tell due to script or something, anything at the beginning is a B, anything in the middle or at the end is a ß

    z.B. Weiß = White
    Bunt = Colorful

This is about the extent of my German, through music and wine:

    Einstürzende Neubauten
    Kalte Farben
    Haujobb
    Winterkälte
    Das Ich

I love me some gewürztraminer and reisling, too.

Excellent taste in music (I'm missing :Wumpscut: from that list..), but the better Riesling wines come from Austria, if you ask me.

As long as we're on stuff we miss from Germany: Rausch. And the Schokoladen Bar at KDW.

How about some moderne deutsche Musik? Clueso, Subway to Sally, Sportfreunde Stiller, Peter Fox, Sido, usw.

That was just a list of bands that I could translate. I have no idea what Wumpscut or Funker Vogt mean in English.

Thanks for the suggestion as I don't think I've ever had an Austrian wine of any type.

Default Basic German for Shavers . . .

    Gentlemen,

Thanks to the learned Robin for starting this thread. I am delighted with the language information. This is great stuff. And thank you all for your input.

I am tempted to start my own thread on Aramaic, the language of the Assyrians, of whom I am one, but I have yet to see a razor with Assyrian markings. Also, my computer types only in English. Oh, well . . .

Aveetoon raaba basime (Thank you very much)

    Regards,

    Obie
