What about one of the most useful German words.. If you suffer from RAD I mean.. and occasionally find yourself sneaking over to www.ebay.de to feed your hunger for more razors :

    rasiermesser

Well, a member asked me for transliterations. My times as a student of forensic linguistics are long past, but I'll try. Anyone more familiar with IPA please chime in.

    • Bergischer Löwe: ['bergɪʃer 'løːwə]
    • der Schleifstein (hone) ['ʃlaɪf,ʃtaɪn]
    • schleifen (to hone) ['ʃlaɪfən]
    • der Abziehriemen (strop) ['abtsiː,ri¦mən]
    • der Hängeriemen (hanging strop) ['hɛŋə,riːmən]]
    • abledern (to strop) ['ableːdərn]
    • das Rasiermesser (straight razor): [ra'ziːr,məsər]

    Regards,
    Robin

Forensic Linguistics? Awesome. Definitely something I am very much interested in. On a slightly related note, anyone trolling Swedish webspace for straight razors, search Rakkniv.

    Grüezi!

I made the mistake of searching the Bay (die Bucht?) for "rasiermesser" without geographical limits, now I have a Henckels Friodur 7/8 "Mit seltenem Kullenrücken und Spanishchem Kopf" en-route from Nordrhein-Westfalen... I hate it when that happens.

When I plug shave into the babelfish online translator, I get "rasur", but it translates to shave as "zu rasieren" and shaving as "rasieren". Is this correct?

    Danke vielmal!
