Default What camera do you use?

Concerning posting pics for all to see. Our camera won't allow me to get close enough for detailed pics. Do you use one with a built in macro for close ups? What did you look for in features? Any idea what prices they are going for these days?

I'd really like to post some show off pics and questions with pics.

    Thanks,

    Kev

I think Sony's had the best macro capabilities, but they've removed the super macro feature on the latest batches? Great optics though. The basic models are just as good as the high end ones, in most regards.

I have a sony which is ancient by digital standards. It's about 3 mps and its plenty for what I need.

I have been using a Leica V-Lux DLSR. It is a all in one camera with super zoom and macro. I really enjoy not having to change out lenses like I had to do with my SLR cameras. I can also do videos for 45 mins too.

I'm using a Fugi S1000 10Meg. with a 12x optical zoom. It has a micro and super micro mode as well as Priority settings just like my 35mm Cannon. It's as close as I could get to a digital SLR without paying the big bucks.

    1) An Olympus E20-P which I'm very in love with.
Is brilliant for lamp light with a manual WB and the pixels are still sufficient.

    2) and a Samsung S85
for natural light but it tricks me now and then with sharpness.
More the handbag type of camera for quick.

I had nice budget for a camera a few years back, in the end, I spent a fraction of it and bought a Sony Cyber-shot DSC-H1. It has been a fantastic camera, the macros are really nice for a 5.1 megapixel camera. The following generations had major changes and do not compare to the H1. What was interesting is that the H1 did not use a Carl Zeiss optics, which was a first for Sony. The camera has rated amazingly against those in a catagory double the price range. It does love to bring out reds for some reason.

If you want to spend less and have a good quality camera with great macros, Nikon has some really good ones for the price. My sister's 10 megapixel she just got two months ago can take fantastic macro shots, and costs a fraction of what I spent on the H1. Nikon at the time I bought the H1 were not putting out those box cameras at the time.

An easy way to test cameras, what I do, is hit up an electronics store and start playing with their display cameras, take pics while moving the camera, compare shots of the same image with different cameras. How well does it take pics with/without the flash in light and dark areas. Glass covered pictures are great to take shots of to see how well the camera can get the picture rather than the glass. Pics of the front doors with the sun shining through. Macro shots of laminates and cloth, glossy and dull images. Check the ease of use of the controls on the camera. The response time when cycling through the menu. Shutter speeds. Write down what you like, go home and read professional reviews online, then return, play some more and purchase the camera.

Okay, so I go a bit crazy and get hands on with cameras, but even my cheapest camera does extremely well. I do not know enough about cameras to be an amature, but I know how I want my cameras to perform.

[She] has a Canon something-er-other. Can't get close ups for squat. Blurs out around one foot or so.

Since this will be my camera, I'll use it for all my pics. The usual vacation, grandbaby and family get together stuff.
