I'm breathing a huge sigh of relief that you're back, Ron. It's great to have you back and I'm sorry to hear you're having the challenges you are. I'm certain your years on the farm have tempered you with a toughness that will see you through.
Same here; I can help in any way.

Thanked: 3795For the posts of support, offers for help, and general sentiments of goodwill, I say thanks to you all!
I'd like to say that things are going better.
Yup, I'd really like to say that.
I really would!
Let's see...
University has decided to rescind financial support of our lab due to its controversial nature, despite our being a core lab that provides services to other labs on campus.
Wife's pay has been cut in half, but she will have to continue working full time, since that's pretty much what post docs have to do.
University has decided to DEMOLISH the building they forced us to put our lab in, thus wasting the nearly half a million dollars we spent setting up our ultra clean facilities and lots of it will not be able to be relocated. I get to deal with the joys of designing a new lab in yet another old building and making arrangements for renovations and relocation, all the while with not much of a clue of how to pay for it this time.
Our major outside funding source may not be able to renew our grant due to the economic downturn, so I need to scramble to get a new grant or two ASAP.
A criticial component of my work was provided by another core lab, which turned out to not have a clue what it was doing, thereby setting me back a few months while I construct a whole battery of lentiviruses.
On the home front, my sister in law who moved in with us is actually going to be living with us for three, rather than the previously declared two, years. She's been a joy. The thing that is the most special about her is that she has decided that she should not have to contribute to ANY household expenses--no rent, no utilities, nothing, for the entire three years.
On the bright side, lately I'm at the lab so much every day that I don't see much of her, so that helps. I guess there's always a silver lining!
I miss my hones. I am giving serious consideration to bringing some of them to work with me. I didn't realize how much of a stress relief honing has been for me until I didn't have time for it.
I also miss SRP. I have no time for posting/reading much of anything here but more importantly I'm way behind in responding to PMs. If you have written to me, I'm not ignoring you! I will answer all PMs as soon as I can. Finally, Jimmy, we've got to talk about your hones again!

Ron,
Not to add to your current workload, but:
1. What lab are you working in/with? I know a few folk at the University, and as a student of sciences I have been harboring curiousity...
2. I don't have any idea what it would be, but if there is anything I can do to help let me know. Iowan razor-holics need to stick together!
