Thanked: 3795Apology/Explanation
In case anyone noticed, I've been absent for a while. Obviously I'm not obliged to continually post, but I do apologize for failing to respond to PMs in a timely manner.
Basically, since failing to make it to the MN get-together due to a change in in-laws' moving plans, everything has gone to hell at work and home. My hones and honing table have been buried by my sister in law's stuff, which seems to have taken over our house. My work has gotten extremely complicated due to, well, let's just say lots of complications. Aside from logistical, financial, and technical issues, my wife's post doc position has been reduced to half time. Anybody who is familiar with post-docs knows that there is no such thing as a half time post doc. It's simply a convenient way for the University to save a little money while screwing its minions. Unfortunately my wife has taken it as a complete indictment of her self-worth, so she's been a tad, shall we say, moody. It also means that our income has taken a hit, so I'm going to have to find some place to start selling some razors or hones.
Anyway, I will try to do my best to get caught up on responding to the PMs that have accumulated over the past few weeks. Also, I look forward to trying to get caught up on all the posts I've missed reading!

Many of us have gone through similar situations recently, I know I have. Remember the priorities. My Mom always said "Remember where your shoes are!" This was in reference to stress at home. If things got hot at home, instead of arguing over something that wasn't really the issue causing the stress I would put my shoes on and go to the Fore Dept. or lodge to hang out for a while until things cooled off. It was good advice, at least for me.

Sorry th hear about your problems. First things will have to come first. I have seen post docs being treated the same way here, across the Pond. Many here have to raise their own funds, doing research for the industry.

Sounds like when it rains it pours, it cant be just one thing wrong at a time, I hate it when life goes to crap. Good to see you again. Keep your stones, and keep your head up!

Thanked: 995I'll add my similar encouragements. I remember well a few GA positions where allegedly enlightened and well-educated professorial types acted more like slave owners.
It does not help that the air fairly crackles with fear propagated by the media over the issue du jour.
