My Latest (and first) Straight Razor Ebay Purchase on Ebay!
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...MEWN%3AIT&rd=1
I think I did pretty well for myself. I saw this auction yesterday, placed a bid I didn't think would have much of an impact (other than to drive up the price for other bidders, of course) and then came back this evening to find that I had won! 10.99 for these three razors, one of which is a spotless Henckel. Of what vintage, I'm not sure.
The other two are wedge razors, and they also look quite snazzy.
Anyhow, can any of you guys tell me anything about them?

Good Catch!
You did very well. I can tell you this much, if I had seen the auction you would not have gotten them at that price. You stole 'em for sure ........Jeff

Very well done! Like I've said before if your patient and lucky you can do very well on Eboy. People were definitely asleep at the mouse on that one.

Thanks guys!
Xman--Yes, I've definitely got to make my next purchase a sharpening stone, so I can put a good edge on these razors and tell you how they perform. I've got a couple of not-so-great blades already, so practicing on them first will be the route to take.
But anyhow, I'm really excited about the Henckel. I'm a fan of their products, and own Henckle manicure scissors and kitchen knives -- but this is my first Henckel straight razor. Does anyone think that the '50' on the blade means that it was made in 1950? Or is that something else altogether?
How about the other ones? Any idea of their age?

That #50 was likely made through the 60's and 70's. I have one exactly like it. It seems to like a heavy hand on the hone and has a very resilient, yet elastic edge. I paid $20 for mine.

Blade,
Not to hijack your thread, but here is my latest Ebay score:

Ray sells the 5/8 for $59.99...never thought I would win this with a minimum bid!

That's a nice looking razor you got yourself there! Isn't it funny how instead of saving us money, these periodic deals only make us more rampant Ebay shoppers? Now we both probably have a "Think of all the other deals out there!" attitude. Ha.
And speaking of the classic shaving razors: What does everyone here think of the DOVO Bismarck? I'm liking the red one here. I like the fact it's a little more decorative than the razors I currently have, and I think it would become the jewel of my collection. The blade size is good and meaty, and it's purrrty at the same time.

Yeah, I've seen that one on there. It's a nice looking blade, but the bulge on the back of the handle is a real turn-off for me. Seems to throw the whole razor off balance or something. *Shrug*
