Yes, I 'm conflicted as well. There was one of those cool club Feathers on eBay recently, but I missed it. Which blades are guys using. I think that JoeLerch uses one. I might give it a try someday.

Thanked: 351I had my first Feather Artist Club shave today and I'm very pleased with it's performance.
Yes, it's sharp... my first pass went just fine, then I got careless because it didn't *seem* all that different from my traditional straights and I was in a bit of a hurry so I rushed the second pass. Nothing terrible happened but there were a few blood spots to show for it, but they were minor and a few splashes of cold water after the shave cleared them up.
I could get real used to just sticking with the Feather. With it's slightly shorter blade it's very nimble on the face, the added weight makes it move smoothly while cutting and with a 10 sec blade change should it go dull... well, it's a big time saver. I think for me it will become a weekday razor... I rarely bother with my other straights just because I have a limited amount of time and would rather spend it lathering and shaving instead of honing and stropping. On the weekends, I think I'll be sticking to my traditional straights... I have the time and I do enjoy the fiddling.
Tony, I don't think the shavette would behave like the Feather, the blades on the Feather are much like the Shick Injector blades, quite stiff and ridged, not thin and flexible like the DE blades. And the build quality of the Feather Artist is excellent, it's solid and has a nice heft.

Christen,
I think for trying the Dovo Shavette I will us the USA Fromm blades in the green holder. These are single edged blades with a heavy spine and are far stiffer than the long ones included with the Shavette kit. I have both and will try them once the Holidays are over as I don't want to pull the Scarface look just before visiting <g>.

Thanked: 4942The Feather Artist is a unique shaver. I still prefer my traditional straights much more. I can check them in a bag when traveling. My Feather feels much like a 6/8 when using the Pro blades, but the Feather is a very unforgiving shaver. I always tend to get a nick somewhere when I use it. After 30 years with the straight a nick is most rare, but I need to pay much closer attention when using the Feather. Tis a very neat razor though. Lynn

Okay, Lynn...that clinches it for me, the Feather ain't my tool <g>. Have you tried the Shavette before? I imagine being lighter it will have it's own issues. I always feel that when I need to "push" a razor I am more likely going to nick myself. The heavy ones shave themselves and to me feel safer.

Thanked: 4942Merry Xmas Tony. I have tried the Dovo Disposable Shavette and it was very light. Again, the blades in these things are very unforgiving. I would much rather loan a razor to a new guy or hone one for him than shave with these things. Personal bias only. There are a lot of folks who have started off using them. Lynn

Thanks Lynn, and Merry Christmas to you. I have one here with both Dovo and Fromm blades. I guess the only way I will know is to try one myself for a while. It's a cheap start and many people have asked about them but I would not feel right selling anything I have no experience with.
