I travel with a DE and a cheap boar brush. I also got one of those little Tupperware containers that's for salad dressing to hold my soap. Since the dimensions of the container are not quite right, I grated up a puck of soap with a cheese grater and packed it into the container, pressing hard with my thumbs. Add a little bottle of moisturizer, and that's my travel kit.

Well, I'm a perpetual traveler, so it's hard to say when I'm "traveling," as I always have been for the past 2 or 3 years.

When I decided I want to try a straight, I did consider how much space I'd need. But in reality? You have as much space as you make.

I travel with a small suitcase only. Everything I own fits in there. And when I say "small," I mean small. 20" x 14" x 7'. For a suitcase that contains your entire life, that's not much to work with.

And yet, I still manage to have room for a set of juggling balls, an incense burner, a computer AND an external HD, a bunch of sewing stuff, a harmonica, 2 or 3 pairs of shoes, a few books, 2 decks of cards, and lots of other crap that isn't strictly necessary. I travel with unnecessary crap because hey, you gotta have creature comforts.

Whenever I move somewhere new, my roommates are always a bit stunned by how full my room looks, considering the tiny space it was all contained it.

Carrying the stuff I need for a straight will be no problem, keeping in mind that I am both a minimalist, and broke, so I don't have any more than is strictly necessary. My "strop" is a belt, so that's easy enough. Other than that, just soap, a razor, and a brush. If I get rid one of my extra bars of regular soap, and do a little re-organizing, that's easy. What's all the fuss about?

But maybe I'm just blessed with Mary Poppin's suitcase.

Here's what I took on my last trip. Simpson, shaving cream sampler kindly given me by Fendrihan, GD, and a few other commonly available necessities. I think you can get by for three or four days without a strop or even stropping but more than that will require one.

I have a filly which would be a great travel strop - but I think if I were going to travel a lot I would make my own or ask someone else to make one to travel specifications.

    Hope you enjoyed your trip,

When I go anywhere I take my TI in a plastic toothbrush case (fits perfectly) along with my old boar brush and Wilkinson Sword soap in the blue tub. I can float this in the sink and also float the lid which I scrape the lather off my brush in to keep warm. I also carry a bottle of Nivea post shave balm and my strop is a leather belt.

I have got a really old travel case which has three Bakelite cannisters (one of which has a brush in it) the other two hold soap and something else (both are empty). There is a loop to hold a straight and also a little mirror. I might dig it up and fill the cannisters with shave cream and moisturiser. Might have to post a few pics up of it when I find it.

I haven't traveled with my straight yet, but I did pick up some cheap simple travel stuff for a planned vacay in a month.

Head to your nearest Container Store (or go online). The easy one is a toothbrush holder for the razor. Also in the bathroom section, they sell all these little tubs and bottles which are perfect for a dollop of shave cream or an ounce or two of AS. These containers usually have a screw top so you don't have to sorry about spilling. They also sell plastic boxes which could hold a brush easily, and with all the sizes you can find one that fits right. I find these cases are much more efficient than a big ziplock bowl so you can bring a full puck of shave soap.

    Hmmmmm
A small thin auto strop 1.5" x 14 " works perfectly for straights as well as DE's.
You could roll it up or just lay it inside a shirt etc..

The only trip I've taken in the three months I've been shaving with straights has been by plane. Not wanting to risk any of the straights I had at the time to loss via TSA bag checks or luggage handlers/inspectors, I packed an old DE, a couple of DE blades, a WeeScot brush, and some Truefitt and Hill sample packets.

Next I travel by car for more than a day or two, it'll be:
    • a straight
    • a Tony Miller practice strop (which I've hung onto specifically to use as a travel strop)
    • my WeeScot brush
    • sample size cream or soap I have on hand at the time

...no bowl or mug as I tend to just face lather when travelling - like to keep my bags as light and minimal as possible.
    John
