    Default Travel Habits Regarding Razors

I'm curious to find out what your travel habits are regarding Straight Razors, and please be honest. What do you pack? You have soap or cream to contend with, or the Shave Stick style. Brush, Strop, Razors, etc....To go away for a weekend or longer could involve a lot of stuff. I went away overnight and brought, an electric razor. yeah, I did....

My GF bought me one as a gift about 3 years ago, not realizing what a blade wielding maniac I am. I had to act, like I loved it....I think she get's upset that I don't use it, Would you? I'll tell you the truth, When I did, It was horrible. I could feel stubble all day, It wasn't good. Not BBS that seems to last for 8 hours plus...She has since come to her senses, and loves the way my face feels, and the awesome fragrances emitted after a str8 shave.

It just seemed easier to pack that, than all the gear...I don't have a travel brush, but for whatever reason I bought one of those expensive leather cases that hold two razors, why, I have no idea. Maybe I could buy a Travel Brush, but then you still have to pack some kind of strop, right?

I always take a travel DE, just in case I need a quick shave. If its going to be weekend trip I usually just take a shavette and shave stick, I'll use my fingers for lathering. If I'm gone a week or better out comes my loom strop and a pair of straights along with a brush and jar of creme, this is doubly true if it is supposed to be a relaxing vacation.

When I took a month-long trip last summer, I packed two straights, my everyday brush, Tabac soap, a barber's hone, and my homemade strop. I just lay the strop on top of the clothes in my suitcase with the nice side of it facing in, which worked fine. Everything else fit in a little toiletries bag.

Of course, during the trip I was fortunate to score a Dragon's Tongue hone (thanks, Mark!), a Chinese 12K, another straight, a jug of Floid's AS, Palmolive shave sticks, and everything Proraso I could find. I could have set up shop anywhere at that point. With that Floid's in my suitcase, I figured we were one careless baggage handler away from making EVERYONE'S luggage smell good.

When I've travelled recently I've taken my strop, brush, a soap and a razor and just put them in the bag.

If it was a business trip, or a shorter trip, I'd take my DE and I'd probably even descend to a can of goop as well.... Gulp! I'd just want to get up, shave and get going on a business trip, so now luxurious shaves for me :-(

I use one of the TI paddle travel strops and put a razor in the pocket incorporated in the leather strop case. Sometimes I take a second razor for back up. Back up could be a regular straight, a Feather or an injector.

A tub of Castle Forbes or SRD soap fits in my bag pretty well along with a Simpson PJ 1 brush. That's pretty much it, except for some AS that goes in a plastic bag. I view the AS as sort of optional, depending on the trip circumstances.

    Default Travel Habits . . .

    Gentlemen,

My travel dopp kit always includes a 5/8" "Pearlex" Dovo, small Tony Miller strop (I lay this flat in the suitcase), Merkur travel double edge razor with Feather blades (in case I am in a rush), Edwin Jagger 19 mm. "best" badger travel brush, tub of Mama Bear unscented soap or Mitchell's Wool Fat, aftershave of choice, plus an assortment of balm, witch hazel and single-use non-lather promotional packages of quality shave cream.

The most important item in the dopp kit, however, is a small flask of cognac — for elevating the spirit, of course.

    Regards,

    Obie

I went on a two week trip recently and packed two razors, my Wapi and a little Vedepasco (It's from Solingen. Ever heard of it? Me neither). I melted some soap into a photo filter case which is nice and small and flat. And I took my Tony Miller practice strop which is also small and flat. The setup was asy to pack, took up little room and I didn't risk losing anything too valuable in my luggage.

Packing for travel is one of my favorite straight shaving activities. I was traveling when I started. For a weekend I only take the razor a dab of soap or creme and usually a brush. Because it's important to us taking a backup razor will insure you get a good shave on Sunday.

Recently I decided that travel makes an excellent barometer of one's confidence and ability. I still don't have enough of either to head out for a week with just a razor and soap.

hey I am traveling now let me show ya what I got

Thanks for the replies so far guys. I may get over my laziness and spoil myself the next time I travel. I do have some small loom strops and some paddles. I can always use another brush, a smaller travel size....

I take a 2 sided paddle and some cream like CF and a straight but not a valuable one. One of my old looking ones that shaves great. For a brush a basic vulfix silvertip and then some aftershave.
