Very cool...but I'm wondering about safety equipment. Goggles? Gloves? Still, an amazing thing to watch! Do you think Bill Ellis taught them???

Wow,
That TI video is great. I do wonder if they are still really being made like that or have gotton a bit more automated and we are seeing a demonstration of "the good ole' days".
Some interesting things was the fellow using the hone near the end and flipping the razor the wrong way <g>. Looks like they believe in using a pasted strop after using a hone too.
Makes me want another TI now.....

This one was more fun than the DOVO tour IMO, it was more nostalgic.
I dont think the current process would be more automated (at least not by much if at all) because this was nearly the same equipment and techniques showed in the DOVO video as well.
Fun Vidi, thanks for sharing

Thanked: 2209Oh! have you ever made me happy! I really wanted to see something like this! It really answers a lot of questions that I have had for sometime.
I can surmise from both this video and the Dovo vid that the razor blanks are die forged or ground someplace else, I assume they are die forged and not ground out of bar stock steel. They arrive with the rough size, grind, unfinshed and without the second concave surface. The lower concave grind is done on that little two wheel machine that has an adjustable height rest just below the centerline of the two wheels. We see that same machine in both vids and is also shown in the pic from Bill Ellis. Everything that we see in this vid is the finishing of the rough blank. In the Dovo vid they showed some part of the heat treating/tempering process but not in this one. I assume that the heat treating/tempering is done before this stage.
The other machine with two wheels layed horizontally opposed is used for creating the initial bevel. They follow that with some time on a stone.
By watching those two operations I can see why their bevel's and the ones that we create on our hones are slightly different. It re-affirms, for me, that any new razor will benefit from spending some time on our own hones, refining the bevel's and the edge. They simply do not have the time to do it as carefully as we do.
All in all, a very enjoyable and informative video!
