Haha...here we go with ole' "Metrosexual" debate again.

I'm already called "pretty boy" enough as it is But I am honestally infatuated by the current 'trends' in masculinity. During the Chritsmas season my wife and I were shopping in the malls for some clothes for the kiddies and we ended up in a one of the those major chain stores (I cant remember which one could have been Merle Norman or Nordstroms) and there at the MAC makeup counter was two lovely young ladies (as allways) and to my suprise two ..umm.... "lovely" young men there representing the "mens line" of MAC make up
Yep, its ok to now ware make up, everything from concealer to lip gloss and eye shadows.... for the "blemished" man in your life

All I can say, is I'll ware make up when

That being said, I do not "exfoliate" I must admit. However my wife uses these little wipes by Neutrogena "Oil-Free Acne Wash Cleansing Cloths" that have an exfoliating effect and I do use them. They really help cut down on black heads and the occasional acne.

Oh, dear God.... *has another heart attack*.

I'm fairly open minded, I like to think, but unless I someday hit it big on Broadway, I don't think I'll be wearing makeup.

Me either. Makeup does not work for me. Especially since I don't have to cover up as many shaving nicks!!!!!!!!!!!

Makeup. Yeah, that's a bit much.

It's kind of amusing, though, how that crosses some sort of line. Prepping, moisturizing and exfoliating are common topics here, but yes, there's still that definitive line drawn in the sand at the makeup. "No way, man - that's weird."

But yes, I exfoliated the hell out of my face a few days ago - unintentionally. After shaving with the straight a couple of evenings in a row, the area around my mouth was left quite raw and dry. The cold weather is not helping matters.

If I may suggest one of my favorite products, try some Truefitt and Hill 'Classic Balm'. I've never found a better balm for either bad razor burn, or inclement weather. Sooooothing. One of my 'must have' shaving accessories.

    Hi Guys,

Thanks for sharing. I’m a huge believer in doing market research and talking to real people about their likes and dislikes. As I said earlier to Randy, I am a barber and have had a shop for 19 years. I have a really great clientele and I ask my guys what they do and what they like, in order to tailor the best services and retail for them. I asked my clients if they exfoliate and many did, so I was not surprised that many of you straight razor guys do too… but you are a lot sharper (not a pun) about face care and process (and a heckuva lot funnier too).

Bravo to the guys who exfoliate, it makes total sense as part of your very careful preparation for “the Blade.” I have a couple of guys who shave in the shower for maximum hydration before taking razor to face, and for those of you who are not quite that fanatic (I have noted how carefully you choose your shave brushes, pre-oil, shaving soap to prep the face for the blade) exfoliation is just another step in the process to moisten, soften, and smooth the neck and face.

If you do exfoliate regularly once or twice a week is fine and follow it with a good balm (note I could have said the girly thing here moisturizer … and you would have stopped reading) along with your other regular care, and you will be creating healthier (read cleaner, smoother) skin that’s a lot easier to shave.

Ryan: Crushed nut shells are usually quite abrasive, and daily scrubbing could be more de-Laminating (the dermis) than exfoliating, please use a light hand or try volcanic pumice or jojoba bead scrub.

    Richz: Exfoliating = Refoliating

    Superfly: I gotta try that!

    HoekmanX: OK ...

Kelly: Neutrogena pads in fact have a light fruit acid that slightly exfoliates (I think your wife might know that).

Thanks to all of you who responded:
Soap socks, face cloths, AHA masques, and pads are all going to work for you.

If you have any questions just send up a Hey Jolene on SRP or on my website. I had one of my guys write a fun column on Shaving (Yeah, including Straight razors) called “Angle of Attack,” check it out.

    Jolene,

Actually I did today. I was washing my face with this Aramis face wash I got for Christmas when I noticed it felt like it had like small pebbles in it. So I guess I was unknowingly exfoliating. It felt good.

    Keith,

You know what they say, "growing old is required, growing up is optional." I prefer to remain a kid
