Thread: What phase are you in ??

I had acquired a whole bunch of stuff before I even started learning with a straight, since I had enjoyed wet shaving before that (though with a 'modern' razor).
Now, though, I do feel the need to try all sorts of styles and sizes of razors, and since it seems so cheap compared to other hobbies (and since I like gadgets and new, shiny, sharp things), I've bought a bunch.
But, as my girlfriend pointed out to me, I now have a number of razors, and I could have just bought the seven-day set I was drooling over at the beginning for the same money. Duly chastened, I think I may save up for that for a while now, or the Thiers handforged. Maybe a sign of moving into a more picky stage?
And, I mean, seriously... a man can never have too many scents of shaving cream.
Hrm.

I don't see the point of having the stock 7 day set. Where is the fun if you are using the "same" razor every day. Instead, made your own 7 (or 365) day set

Nenad,
On first look the 7 day set looks a little boring I agree, but there is something very gentlemanly about a "set" of anything, especially in a nice fitted case. In the old days a proper gentleman would choose only the best so one single design, duplicated 7 times was just fine. Most gentlemen lived fairly ordered lives anyway. If a design was good, why stray from that. Besides, if a gentleman stepped to far outside the box, well my oh my, people may talk <g>
I am not sure the appeal or the real reason why but when I find a razor I just like the look and feel of I buy a second, to make a pair and often use the set when traveling. If one dulls, no problem, I still have my favorite (in duplicate) right next to it. And yes, I will probably get a 7 day set as well.

I would love to have a seven day set. However having a collection of different razors is pretty cool too.

As Tony said, there is something very gentlemanly and old-worldly about it. And, for someone like me who doesn't have a huge love of honing, the old fashioned reason still holds, too - you hone them once every other year or so, give or take.
A brace of pistols, or of shotguns, a set of matched silverware, whatever it is, having a number of matching pieces is great. And, this would be an heirloom to hand down, since I would hold out for the best set I could get of something like this.

After that, it'll probably be the best brush, or the complete bathroom remodel. There's always something.

I could see (me) having favorable razors in pairs, however I've yet to come into a razor that I want two of HA!!
However I have to agree with Nenad that a set of seven identical blades would not appeal to me. Redundancy is boring
