Once again, FedEx SUCKS!
<rant> Ok, so I finally saved up enough cash to purchase my Norton 4/8K. I buy it from Lee Valley who ships it via the slow boat from China route. After a week of waiting, FedEx shows up at my doorstep and rings the bell. I get up to answer the door and the guy is yelling "FedEx!" as he runs away. Ok, so now I'm excited, I get to hone my razors on a real stone! I look at the box and it's a bit damaged, oh no....
Turns out, the case for the stone is broken, one end of the lid is knocked off. The stone has a small chip out of the corner of the 4K side. This isn't major damage, but for that price, I'd much rather have a stone that is "perfect". Well, so much for honing my project razors on a Norton for at least another couple weeks. It's going to take at least one week to get a resolution from FedEx and who knows how long before Lee Valley gets the issue resolved.
I generally use UPS when shipping and I'd recommend anyone else to use them also since I've seen this with FedEx before. </rant>

IMO, Lee Valley should immediately send out a replacement, with a return package for the damaged stone. They choose to use FedEx, and they need to deal with them in their own time.

Thanked: 1I just wanted to voice a positive here. I've prefered Fedex over everyone else for a very long time. They have never damaged my packages...although realistically I'll put more responsibility on the packer than the shipper for damage as I was IN the packing business for a short time. The service in my experience is faster than anyone else, and more reliable to boot. Plus UPS tracking is such a pathetic joke I can't even begin to count how many packages they've delivered before the tracking info on the website updates itself.

I don't know for sure, but I imagine that all your popular shippers (UPS, FedEx, and the good ol' USPS) have a problem with a beat up package now and again.
But, yeah, call up the vendor and tell him what happened, and ask to be sent a replacement.

I have received and shipped alot of packages through fedex, UPS, USPS and from my experience Fedex is the fastest, never a problem. As far as service goes they all leave much to be desired but I much prefer them to UPS. My only beef with all of them is that they're in such a hurry they leave stuff without even ringing the bell. I've had especially Fedex residential service delivered on a saturday at 8PM and didn't discover the package until sometime next morning.
I think if security is important USPS is the way to go.No matter how many men you kill you can't kill your successor-Emperor Nero

...but Lee Valley comes through!
I called Lee Valley with the claim information and they stated they will immediately ship out another stone (via UPS thankfully)! Additionally, they don't need the old one back since they feel it's damaged, they will take it up with FedEx to get a refund on the item. I guess shipping via FedEx made it my lucky day since the stone was only chipped on one corner. I can say, at least I tried to return it to them, but they didn't want it.
Kudos to Lee Valley's customer service! Great prices AND great service!

I have the original box and the damaged item and I can send pictures or return the item still. I believe the ultimate responsibility of proof rests with the shipper since I notified them of damage. If they want it, I can send it, that's not a big deal.

Thanked: 15It's more about the individuals, not the companies. You can find good and bad drivers with all of them.
