Default Hair too soft for HHT

    Hi all,

I have three razors so far and all of them shaves really really well, however, none of them can perform a HHT with the hair from my head, the pubic hair is no problem at all (I had to try). Can one's hair actually be too soft for HHT?

I went to my barber yesterday and tried my luck with his razor, same thing, my hair wouldn't be cut while other peoples hair could.

depending on how keen the edge is the razor may or may not pass the HHT.
HHT is not at all conclusive test on how well the razor shaves, the shave test is the true test.

It's entirely possible. Hair is variable, and as such the "hanging hair test" is nop objective test at all...

...its a parlor trick sack-of-shite. Really. It looks great, but it has no bearing on how well a razor shaves. And I put it so bluntly because in the last month or so it seems like every beginner has taken to hyper-analyzing their new razor because they don't think it could possibly be, say, their technique that's the problem...

I had to ask 'cos I have a folding knife that is honed on a much coarser hone then my razors and I can shave with it, it tugs a bit, but still.

Try HHT with a new DE blade. If you can't do it with that you probably can't do it with anything.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

There's no problem with a DE blade but that is so much thinner so I guess it can grab the hair much easier, right?

As said time and again, HHT is not something one should get stuck upon. I have exactly the same problem. But testing the edge with a hair can be a valuable tool when you learn to do it consistently with your hair.

I'm not sure why but whether I can do it with a straight razor or not I can invariably do it with a DE blade. I have very fine hair. Sometimes when I pull a strand out of the brush I have to move it against the background to see it. Sometimes I can get HHT and other times I cannot but I still get a good to great shave one way or the other. So as the previous gentlemen have said, focus on the shave rather than the HHT.

Unless you own a chinchilla that requires dry grooming on occasion I wouldn't sweat it.

Nope. Today I will not reach for the low-hanging fruit. Must run away.
Don't get hung up on hanging hairs.
