Thanked: 7Oh No.....friggin faucet
So I've been waiting a while to post after my first few posts.
so i received my first str8 a couple of weeks ago and I just ruined my razor.
I love it, still trying to assemble my kit....such as a strop(help!)...currently using a leather ottoman. I'm waiting for a good used stro to show up in the classifieds, but this has not happened yet. thus I've been sticking to the ottoman, it works rather well with no real comparison.
My shaves are getting better every time I lather up with my left over shaving gel...still don't have a brush...or soaps....
I do the following.
Shower, leaving conditioner on my face for most of the shower.
Ice Cold Face Plung
shaving gel( let it sit for a minute or two, then rewet.
WTG first pass
XTG Second pass (or if Im in a rush and can't do a third ATG)
ATG Third Pass.
ATG touch up / Full fourth Pass
There has only been one shave that i considered to be closer (or close to) that of my mach3, However i can shave daily now without my face falling off
I'm really trying to understand how you guys can get a close shave without going ATG.... Its smooth if only feel my face WTG... but it i pull my hand ATG it feels like I barely shaved.
So before I post too many questions, I did something bad today.
So i was doing my normal shave in the morning, and for some reason instead of filling the sink up with water to wash my face, and the str8, I left the tap running. No worries my first two passes, went to do the 3rd and i rinsed the blade and brought it up to my face but it only made it a couple of inches.... I lifted the blade right into the faucet with little force but enough to chip the blade a very tiny bit.
Now i dont know what to do... So I used the heel of the blade to finish my shave...
What do I do with the blade now? can i do something with out super honeing tools to fix it for the time being before i get a rehone?

That same thing happened to me on my dovo on my 2nd shave in , and i sent it to Lynn for honing. Especially little chips they will come out, and i bet youll never make that mistake again. But if i can offer some advice. Go to walmart and get a 6 dollar shave kit including, soap puck , brush and bowl, it is way better then the shave gel and no brush, also http://ruprazor.com has a "filly" strop for 20 bucks and its great. good luck and Welcome!!!

Thanked: 335It will have to be honed past the nick. I rinse too, but keep the spine toward the faucet. My grandfather wiped his razor on a folded piece of well read newspaper, then again he and grandma didn't have running water in the farmhouse.

Big Blue,
Sorry to hear about that...
Send your razor out to get it honed. If its not a very big chip in the blade that will fix it and make it like new."Age is an issue of mind over matter. If you don't mind, it doesn't matter." Mark Twain

You will need to hone the nick out eventually.
The heel of the blade if sound can still be used.
In a recent video posting a 30 year shaver gave us a look
at his method.
One thing he did that is not common to see is use a wet
sponge to wipe/ rinse the lather off the blade on the sponge
as the shave progresses. I recommend it if your faucet does
not give you clear access to the sink and rinse water.
My old barber used to wipe the lather off the razor on
the back of his hand with a stropping motion.
I think the lesson is, save water and your edge, use a sponge
or shaving towel.

Thanked: 0Most nicks from faucets can be honed out. If you are are not experience with honing or do not have the equipment, just find a reputable sharpening service in your area. Most cutlery stores have a long of razor honing experience.
