Default Narrowed it down to two razors!!!

I have narrowed my choice down to two razors

    http://www.classicshaving.citymax.co...013/564233.htm

    http://www.classicshaving.citymax.co...940/190287.htm

Tony has the Dovo in stock and is willing to sharpen it for me (or send it out to Lynn) as well as let me save money on shipping if I order it with some other stuff. It is a good deal (especially if I have Tony do the sharpening), but I have heard that TI's have superior blades. Of course, it seems that everyone on here has at least one of each brand, so I am assuming it comes down to preference and that Dovo is excellent too.

Any words of wisdom before I buy my first straight razor?

    Thanks!

Well, I have the DOVO Special and I love it. It is better looker than the TI. So my choice here would be the TI. But, better yet, get the first, than save for the second... Seriosely, they are both great razors, you won't go wrong with either of them

    Nenad:

Did you mistype or just build up the DOVO and then skillfully shifted to TI for greater effect or you have something against good looking razors?

I personally would go for the TI first and make DOVO my second.

lol, no I didn't mistyped, I just said that since I already have the DOVO (and I don't own TI) I would go for the TI I don't use English much (exept for occasional typing here, so any "skillfull" shifting is not on purpose, and probably mistake, sorry...

I know that the TI is greatly apreciated here, and said to be of better quality than DOVO. I don't own TI's, so I cannot personally wouch for them. If I didn't own any razors, and had to make my choice based on what I have read here, my choice would be the TI first, DOVO second.

In my humble opinion, Dovo makes a fine razor and you would not regret buying one. That being said, TI's are simply better to me. They take a better edge. If you buy the Dovo, and you are like me, it will eat at you until you get a TI. If you have the cash, I agree with Vlad, get the TI. Of the current makers, they have no rival for my money. For that matter, they're right up there with, if not superior to, any razors from ANY ERA. Just my two cents...

I'd agree with you Jeff except that the Maestro ATS 34 razors are just awesome shavers and super artistic. Both Dovo and TI are trying to imitate his work......lol. They ain't cheap though, as you know........lol. There are some great Dovo and TI shavers, but most are their higher end models. Lynn

I just read that TI's are made in France, and I try REALLY hard not to buy anything from France (I can't stand their constant US bashing, but that's another story) . So I think I will be leaning towards the Dovo, but seeing as SO MANY people like the TI, I may just have to try to justify the purchase.

Can someone tell me exactly what it is about the TI blades that make them so much better?

It is their steel. They use molten lead to heat treat the steel which makes it harder. They take a bit longer to hone but the edge is stays sharp longer too.

Doesn't stop you from using oil from the middle east I see and they're known to be anti-american from time to time. Besides, most who harbour sentiments which might be called anti-american, are simply anti-america foreign policy. Most Americans are fine by me .

It's kinda like the argument about not buying those Bresduck DD's because they were produced during the NAZI era. Those razor makers, were simply razor makers and had nothing to do with fascism. Many may have detested what was happening in their country more than we do.

It's bigotry and descrimination to exclude the TI (which is a supurb instrument) based on responses to Bush administration style agressive foreign policy. I believe Americans should make America the kind of country that common people the world over will love instead of hate. I also believe Americans can and will eventually succeed.

Go for the TI. There are lots of great German blades out there, but finding a used TI is like finding a needle in a haystack. You'll also be releasing anti-french sentiments from your heart. Freedom from descrimination, after all, is one of the best freedoms of all.
