Funny e-bay descriptions/tactics.
I am spending way too much time on e-bay. Luckily mostly browsing. With some of these I can't help but chuckle.
"I am no razor expert ..... These are in excellent condition ... and would make a great addition to your collection."
Well thank you for your non-expert opinion. If I wanted one I'd ask the kid bagging my groceries.
"EXCELLENT plus used CONDITION straight razor. NO rust ,only pepper age spots on blade, some pits."
No comment required. Well, maybe a small one. "Oh, can I have it? Can I have it? I prefer rusted out pits to just plain old rust." and they are not called age spots, these are liver spots. At least they would be on a vintage human.
"The razor is very sharp. I tried cleaning but stopped after cutting myself"
Wow, a moron and a liar all in one compact package.
"The razor is very sharp, it tried cutting a piece of paper and it sliced it with no effort."
Where to I sign up for this letter opener?
The one I really like, on an obviously restored blade:
"... STRAIGHT RAZOR MINTY ... "
I don't know about minty. Can I get it in cinnamony?Last edited by vladsch; 02-17-2006 at 07:50 PM.

I've bought quite a few from Ebay, having been sucked in with that verbiage since I didn't know any better. It doesn't take long to learn. Now, they better have pictures. Lots of them, and good quality.

"THIS IS A VERY OLD SOLACE STRAIGHT RAZOR, I DONT HAVE A DATE IT WAS MADE BUT IT DOES APPEAR OLD AND COMES WITH THE ORIGINAL BOX. THE BLADE IS IN GOOD SHARP AND IS EXTREMELY SHARP. OVERALL LENTH FULLY OPENED IS ABOUT 10 INCHES."
Helluva description, ain't it? Found this one tonight and thought it was hilarious. "Appears old"? WTF?!? A brand new Dovo or TI "appears" old. That's one of the things we really like about straights...

I was absolutely amazed when I read some of the descriptions for razors. I wanted to write and ask what color was the sky in their world. Right now if the picture is not good I don't even consider it.

I agree. I think I will make an April fool's listing on e-bay making light of all the different techniques used in the past but exagerated for effect.
Just want to see if I can turn my "restoration" test blade into a work of art to make the auction look good first.
I figure to make it 7 days and end on April 1st. Real auction, accurate descriptions, honestly state that it is not worth the S&H much less money for the razor, but if someone does buy it I want to have something real as in the pictures to ship them .

Okay, those are pretty damn funny.
It's so much better when you know what you're looking at, though.

Go to Ebay, and look up this item. Then check out the description...particularly where the seller claims you can "leave it in water for life, and it will never rust". Really, ebay should ban people who describe their products so blantantly falsely. Are "Rockwell Solingen" razors even made in Solingen, Germany?
