I've not entered a Walmart in over a year. I would rather pay twice the price at a locally owned store. The problem is, most of the locally owned stores have been 'Walmarted' out of business. Thus, if I can't find it locally, it's specialty shops on the net.

Thanked: 0Buy the cheapies, but please find a source other than walmart.
For the face and cleaning up, the terrycloth is much better and if you want the tight weave of the barber towel, those are available also. Dont forget to check the dish towel dept. as well as bath towel dept.
Several years ago I purchased 3 rolls of the towel that is used in the continous towel dispenser seen in resturaunts and gas stations. They are about 50 feet long and I got them at a flea market for about $5.00 each. I have cut them up and hemmed the ends. They make great towels for my woodshop, garage, etc. and now also shave towels. (it also has the herringbone weave and the tell tale stripe that barber towels have)
But I dont wipe my razor as I shave, I rinse the blade. The barbers wiped because they could do this without leaving the customer in the chair. Was very efficient for them. It is a great towel to clean and dry the razor though. Remember to put your razor up DRY.Last edited by glrerun; 02-18-2006 at 09:12 PM.

Thanked: 0mslovacek--no scorn here, I am on the same page as you. In addition to injustice to the employees, Walmart practices some very unfair and damaging business practices. They have hurt many small businesses and have also put many small businesses out of business. They have also made a negative impact in several large businesses like K-mart, Venture, Target, many Grocery Stores, etc.
Another thing to think of is that if we continue to patronize a company that is taking over the market, we will lose the diversity in products, styles, choices and much much more. Think of it "Wally World" does not mean Wally Store, it means Wally World!
It is my choice to spend a few more bucks and avoid Walmart.

Ihave seen the same thing happen in Kansas where I grew up. In addition to seeing Walmart destroying the local businesses, I have seen Walmart consolidating its stores after destroying local businesses. It appears to me, that once there is no competition, or threat of future competition, Walmart will close the local stores. Consequently, now the towns people must drive 40-60 miles to do their shopping. Walmart saves, rural customers loose...

It's a cruel irony that those who depend on Wal-Mart the most are the same people who are being hurt by these big box stores - the poor. And with so many less fortunate folks blowing their cheques on Wal-Mart junk every weekend, I don't really see how giving the extra buck or two to one of their competetors is going to make much of a difference. The franchise is worth billions. Their employees should strike. Of course they'd probably just be fired and replaced with even poorer people and "illegaler" immigrants. Heh.
I don't go to Wal-Mart because I detest the crowds of smelly people. Oh, and the employees are total dolts.

I do most of my shopping online, because I can get good prices and diversity. I also try to shop at the small shops, and the internet makes that possible. But when it comes to regular stores, I really dont see how walmart, target, shop rite, macy's or anyone else is that different. Yes Walmart is the worst offender because of their lack of benifits, but they all buy the same stuff made overseas. Walmart isnt the enemy, its chain stores in general that buy bulk from the ceapest bidder.
But I still go to macys, walmart, and wherever else, because I cant get everything online. Honestly the only thing that would make me buy a product at one store versus another, is if one store carries a product that was made in the USA, I would gladly pay extra for that. However, if its all made in korea, and its all sold at chain stores, then who cares who is peddling it.

I bought mine from the local dollar store (which is probably not much better than Walmart now that I think of it.

Now, if a mom and pop shop sells mostly american made goods, and supports not only themselves but other american workers, than that is worth paying the money for and I will gladly pay more and have pride in doing so.
.P.S. I know you are from Canada, but hopefully you get my point.Last edited by JLStorm; 02-18-2006 at 11:24 PM.
