Thanked: 0I do travel and do take my straights. I do not take my most valuable, but I do not take the bottom of my barrell either. I just take good razors that I like to shave with.
I do check my baggage, I have never had one stolen or lost, I do not lock my luggage because we are not allowed to anymore.
I have had good luck so far. I also suggest the travel shaving tin from classicshaving.com or from dovo. I also suggest the vulfix travel shaving brush--I am very happy with it.
And then you are set and enjoy.

JL,
You could ask Lynn if he has any decent *user grade* razors for sale that he could put in the box along with the razor he's honing for you now. If you have a couple of travel razors that you don't care if you lose or get banged up a bit, then you won't be risking the good ones. In case it gets stolen, you're not out a couple hundred bucks. As far as protection from damage, put a rubber band around it to keep the blade closed, put it inside a razor box in your dopp kit. If it still gets damaged, then you have bigger troubles to worry about.

JL, you'll want another razor at some point but for now just take a DE and your straight and have fun with them. Don't worry about losing it, you don't really own anything in this world anyway, your just borrowing it for a while. Some day that same razor will be on Ebay and somebody will be bidding on it, and waiting for the day it arrives at HIS house. It'll last a lot longer than you will. Don't get uptight either because you cherish it, thats the beauty of this sport. You now own shaving implements you actually cherish...enjoy it. Also remember your new to this and dream shaves take time and practice. You'll want to have a DE with you too. As long as your taking checked baggage make the most of it and take some stuff along to make your stay more pleasant. If you lose it file a claim with the airline and get an even better razor...
...this is the essence of enjoying your life, apply these lessons to everything you do. Don't buy stuff you don't need, enjoy the things you do have, cherish the good things in life, don't get connected with it like it really matters, and get lost in the things you love... even if its a razor.Last edited by AFDavis11; 02-19-2006 at 03:13 AM.

Perhaps this is a crazy idea but here goes.
This might offer a razor some protestion from damage.
Get a 1" piece of PVC plastic pipe and put caps over
the ends. You might glue one of the caps in place.
This should be strong and may help out if the baggage
handlers are rough with your luggage.
Just a thought,
Terry
