Thanked: 33What is the fallout rate for newbies ?
Hi everyone,
Being a relative newbie to SRP and having spent alot of time reading threads designed to encourage newbies to develop their skills,it suddenly occurred to me that (unless i'm not reading threads in the right forum ) no numbers of new members are given ,also although membership continues to grow, there are no statistics given for "dropping out".
1.-Is a registered member deleted if he/she fails to log in after a certain time?-ie:-Is there a time limit?
2-How big is the fallout rate? Can it be measured? How much of a problem is it?
I only ask because i am curious-I am not being negative or anything like that. If it is none of my business I'll get my nose out of it!!
It has just occurred to me -maybe this is in the Rules of membership!!-If so tell me i'm an idiot!
Curiously,

I wasn't thinking about it from the membership angle per se, but I posted a poll trying to get at the "capture rate" for people who try straight shaving. Since I posted it at B&B, it was targeting those who already enjoy traditional wetshaving.
It's here, if you care to see the results. I found it interesting that 80 people voted without a single one going for the "tried straights, not for me" option.

Thanked: 33Hi Northpaw,
It's here, if you care to see the results. I found it interesting that 80 people voted without a single one going for the "tried straights, not for me" option.
Maybe if a poll was conducted to measure the progress of newbies, that would indicate the percentage who thought they may fail-or who were definately not enjoying their experience.I concede that if someone gives up they are not available to vote on a poll.
Thanks again

The thing is it is impossible to determine who 'drops out' of straight razor shaving as opposed to who ceases to post on the forum while continuing to shave with a straight. Some people just find other interests that take precedence over forum participation while continuing to shave with a straight. The fellow who got me into it being one of them. If I never posted on a shaving forum again I do think that I would still be shaving with a straight razor for the rest of my days.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Thanked: 13245I can tell you this and I am sure Lynn and Max would back this up...
I have tons of honing and restores that come in through my website and my personal e-mail from people that are not members at any of the forums, or are members, but only use SRP for the help aspect that it offers people..
Unfortunately not everyone likes to use the social aspect of the forum, but hey that's ok too, we give out info to anyone who needs it, and asks for it....

I agree with Jimmy. The hobby is the thing that unites us, but the forum is kind of a separate side to it.
In the event that the internet ceased to be, which is really the only thing that'd stop me posting here hehe, I'd keep on straight razor shaving for sure..!

Thanked: 33Hi jimmyhad,
Thanks -thats a really good point I hadn't thought of.I can see what you mean -there just is no way of measuring fallout and contued use of a straight even though you do not post on a forum. How wise !!
Boy you guys really do think outside the box!!
