Thanked: 603I spend $55 for a two-year subscription to Roast (coffee)
I spend $42 for a two-year subscription to Skin & Ink (tattoos)
I spend $50 for an annual membership to the Nat'l Tattoo Assoc., which includes a bi-monthly, glossy magazine/newsletter
So, yeah; I'd spend a corresponding amount for a subscription to a wet-shaving magazine... and I'd read the articles and "look at the pictures"
After all, who takes a laptop, netbook, or eReader into the crapper? (if you do, 'fess-up)You can have everything, and still not have enough.
I'd give it all up, for just a little more.

Wet Shaving Magazine
Hello, Slartibartfast:
I agree with you. The print media is slowly dying. I mean there will always be magazines, but not as many, and they will probably look somewhat different.
Yet even an online magazine, to which you refer, needs to be run professionally to compete with the best of them. That's what I envision for both print or online magazine on the world of wet shaving.
I think it's a great topic with potential.
Stay well.
Regards,
Obie

Thanked: 5With respect,
I think considering a print publication makes for some interesting discussion and some nice speculation, but it's a bit like building a bridge or a canal.
While I can think of reasons why a bridge should be built, how it should look, and what its benefits might be - I have no idea how to go about building a bridge. I think it's only when someone with the know-how gets the fire in his/her belly that the idea can get off the ground.
I'd love to see a glossy magazine on the shelves heralding the joys of SR shaving. I doubt if there are many in this group who would not. Labour of love or not, such a project would require some hands-on knowledge of the publishing world, funding, advertising and distribution. Of course it CAN be done, but it would take a full-time, full throttle effort on the part of someone with some serious entrepreneurial skills to make it work. And even then there would be not guarantee of a return on investment for those involved.
Like a lot of us, I'd love to be on the editorial board of such a thing and help to shape it, but I'm not enthusiastic enough to re-mortgage my house for it. And I think that most new endeavours probably require that level of commitment if they are ever to see the light of day.
On the other hand, there are always people looking for ideas to launch a new venture. So, if anyone knows an editor at Conde-Naste or some other publishing empire, put a little work in their ear

Wet Shaving Magazine
Hello, Basil:
Thank you for your note. Yes, of course, I do have a measure of interest in such a publication and will be delighted to chat with you in a personal message.
My interest, however, comes with a big dose of reality that points a cautious finger at the feasibility of such a publication. Having written extensively for magazines throughout my professional career, I realize the complex trappings they pose.
The prospect for success weakens even more when one considers the publication's focus. After all, wet-shaving is not exactly a household word in this society. We're looking at a niche market. That means readership will be relatively small.
Still, it has a chance of survival if it is done professionally and smartly, and if it has strong financial backing. One can staple together several pages of something and call it a wet-shaving magazine. If I were to create such a publication, it would be a class act in every way, from its editorial focus to professional staff and slick design.
If you're going to do it, then do it right. After all, we spend time and energy on the colorful ritual of wet shaving with the straight razor. I imagine the ladies and gentlemen who practice this noble art would expect quality from a publication about it as well.
Regards,
Obie
