When I was younger and more naive, I bid on some memory. My highest bid was just below the market price (before shipping). Fortunately someone even more naive outbid me. Since then, I've become much more careful and got some really great deals. The highlight was a cell-phone battery that retailed for $90+15% tax, which I got for $30 shipped to my door. The other thing that I did was start sniping. It is not only a good technique for avoiding bidding wars, but you also get to set how much you're willing to pay for the item and don't have enough time to go over the amount lol.

Boy you hit the nail on the head. A lot of times you'll bid more than you intended just because there at the end it becomes almost a competition. If you wait till the last minute, you can limit the damage.

I think key is to know what something costs. I do like the sniping though. It does keep the damage top a minimum.

Rich,
Your post brings up a question: I always judge what to pay by how much it's worth to me, but where would I look to find a more objective list of razor prices?

There are some books out there but usually they serve more as a reference and the quoted prices are low.
It seems to me the number of razors offered on EBOY has grown tremendously in the past year and razors I wouldn't give a nickel for are going for serious prices and anything I would consider are going for a c note or more.
As I've said before I think razors are way undervalued. Just look at what vintage knives are going for. The day will come when we'll look back and say gee I can't believe I got that satinedge $500 what a bargin that was. LOLNo matter how many men you kill you can't kill your successor-Emperor Nero

And people who have new old stock usually just squeeze'em on the market on a one by one basis. They may buy like 200 pieces at $10-15 a pop and sell'em one by one @ 100 bucks a pop. Reminds me of the diamond industry. They're cutting off the supply to raise the demand and the prices with it.

I've developed a real love of Wostenholm and W&B razors, and I don't even have a heavy beard. They're gonna break me.
All the Sheffield razors I have out-shave anything else I have, although I have a NOS Revisor I've yet to use...
BTW, does anyone know how to get hold of "Andrew", as in "Andrew's Razors for sale" in the User Gallery forum?

Being a smart ebay buyer consists of deciding how much you are willing to spend on an item including shipping (ALWAYS CHECK on shipping costs), placing your max bid and walking away until the auction is over. Of course if you are a sniper, that's another story.
Other than a Gold Gillette Aristocrat DE, I've not used ebay for anything except fountain pens. Man, I'm doing good. Must...not...go...back...to...ebay...
