Thanked: 1just to be clear, i am in no way upset with classic shaving nor am I mad at TI. A bit dissapointed at TI, but not angry or "bent out of shape".
there is no way that I hit anything but leather in stropping it as I have nicked but ends of my strop enough that i do not strop with the whole length. The chip is hard to see unless looking at it closely, again its maybe 1/3 the depth of the bevel. I am leaning towards sending it to Lynn to hone it out. Even if i got a replacement one I would send it to him.
Is there going to really be any degradation in shave quality of this razor with the chip honed out as opposed to a replacement razor that has not had the nick honed out? If not, then I am not even going to bother CS or TI about it I wll just get it honed out and move on.

I do think they should be more careful about how they send them out though. I guess I feel just as you do. If it were mine and it arrived in that condition I'd frown for about two seconds and quickly adopt an evil smile as I start soaking my Norton.

Thanked: 0I have 12 TI's (most bought new). Quality control is not as good as Dovo. Main issues are with pins not straight, pins not in centre of scales, scales not matched, scales damaged, etching defective. Blades are great once honed. Wider variation (when compared to Dovo) in the amount of honing reqiured to get shave ready from new.
Have only had one blade defect (chip in the heal) which was sent back to the supplier and replaced without any problem. However I had bought several other TI's from them and had not sent any back.
I will continue to buy TI's as they are just that bit different. That said my preference is now Dovo as the quality of the TI blades does not compensate for poor quality finishing (no point having a nice blade with scales that are out of align by 2-3mm).
It could just be my luck or perhaps I'm too fussy but 4 out of 12 with some defect isn't good (I don't think I've had that many defects in all the razors I own, 70+).
TI vs Dovo reminds me of French vs German cars in the 70's/80's. If you want assured quality go German, if you want something a bit different go French.
All that said get at least one of each before you make your mind up.

That's what I am doing.....getting one of each TI made before I make up my mind.
Ohh, I guess you meant one of each brand, a TI and a Dovo <g>

Thanked: 1well i settled it. I couldn't resist the call of the 4k norton so i went ahead and honed it out, it is now of about the same sharpness as my other shavable razors. I will try it again in the morning. Sometimes i think i need to lose my DIY mentality.
