I just feel awful...Ray was such a nice guy, and I had just gotten to know who he was when he got really sick. I am glad I at least got to speak with him over SRP. I am so sorry for his family's loss, and for our loss as well.

I just saw the page...it is amazing what they have done, especially TI! That really says a lot.

Default Donation to Hospice "Visiting Nurse Association"

I have received all of the money for Rays plant with the excess going to a Hospice group called "Visiting Nurse Association" which was the group taking care of Ray during his last days. We will be donating $147.75 to this group.

I have emailed the funds person of this group and explained what our donation was about and asked for an address to send the check to plus I asked that I not receive a tax receipt since all of the money is not mine. I also asked that the donation be in the name of "StraightRazorPlace.com".

I also sent the names of everyone that donated and their SRP name to Laurie and Danielle Dupont.

Also don't forget that you can buy a $10 ticket at ClassicShaving.com which will donate $10 to this Hospice group plus give you a chance to win one of three very very nice prizes which can be seen on the CS.com website by clicking on Tribute-In Memoriam. The drawing will be on October 8th which is six months after Rays passing.

    The accounting is:
    PayPal Donation: $208.33
Donation by Check/Cash: $ 45.00 (My donation for plant is part of this.)
PayPal Fees: $ 12.17 (Paid by Bill Watkins)
    Total: $265.50
    Less Cost of Plant: $117.75
    Total Donation: $147.75

If anyone wishes to see the excel spreadsheet with a detailed accounting of this please email me and I will send it to them. However, due to the privacy of the names I will not reveal them only dates and figures will be revealed.

    Thanks again Guys,

Bill, That's awesome! Makes me proud to be a part of this group (even though I don't post much). Thank you again for doing this. Just another reason why this is the best group on the web.

    Default Article about Ray Dupont

I just received a newsletter from the Visiting Nurse Association which was the Hospice place that helped Ray Dupont during his last days. In it is an article about Ray and his wishes for this foundation and the three prizes that will be given away to the lucky winner on Sept 8, 2006. The article is below if you want to read it, it is pretty nice.

Thanks for the heads up, Bill. It is nice to hear that Ray's legacy has been appreciated outside of this community as well.

    Default Ray's Gone? Ouch...

Up until about two weeks ago, I hadn't picked up a straight razor probably in a couple of years, and hadn't checked out straightrazorplace or the Yahoo group in perhaps three years. But once I started to shave with a str8 again, it rekindled my enthusiasm, and I realized the first thing I wanted to do was to post something expressing my thanks to Ray Dupont. Around the time I got too busy to read messages or post much to any online groups, Ray called me up here in NorCal and said he'd read a lot of my posts in which I complained about how little progress I'd made in learning how to hone. He said he'd like to make me an offer of a Japanese, replaceable-blade Feather razor, completely free, and all he asked me to do in return was to post something about my experience with it. Well, the Feather Artist Club DX he gave me was and is a dream, so I posted a couple of items about how excellent I found it.

Having started to use the Feather again regularly, a few days ago I thought it would be high time to post another item thanking Ray for his generosity and saying once again what a fine razor the Feather is. But today, upon registering anew at straightrazorplace.com, I found that Ray won't be reading any posts any more, as far as we know. I'm very sorry I to be unable to thank him in the usual way, but nonetheless I wanted to post some words of gratitude, and condolences to Ray's family and many friends.

In addition to the pleasure of using the Feather DX, my daily shave will be an occasion to remember Ray's kindness and goodness of heart.

    blessings to all,
    denis
