Thread: Storing straights

Do you store your active straights in the bathroom? That was my first inclination, so it'd be readily at hand. But then I thought the humidity might damage it...?
Same question with the 4-sided combo paddle strop I got from Tony. It comes with an eyelet on the handle so one can hang it on a hook - but then one side will be in contact with the wall. Is this bad? Humidity bad? Water bad for pasted sides?

My straights live in a small canvas tool roll made for woodworking tools. It only has 6 pockets but I put 2 smaller razors in one pocket so it holds 7 or 8. I forget where I bought it from though, some german tool website.
I also sewed some small 'condoms' out of chamois leather to slip over my razors before putting them in the roll. It keeps them safe and stops them opening in the large roll pockets, also I don't damage the razors if I put 2 in 1 pocket.

I purchased a small plastic three-drawer container at Target for around $7. I keep the razors that need to be honed or restored in the bottom drawer, the razors that have been honed and are ready for a shave test in the second, and the razors that have passed the shave testin the top drawer. This way I don't get confused as to which are the great shavers, and it is rewarding to move a razor up to the next level after all your work. Now since most of my razors have made it to the top level I store most of the boxes in the lower drawers to save space at the top. Although it is fairly small, the container could easily hold over 50 razors. I have around 30 and there is still a lot of room left. I am considering purchasing something similar for my growing hone collection.
