    Default Storing straights

OK, if you don't have boxes how do you store them. I would imagine on a soft cloth or if upright in a jar then tangs down to protect the end of the scales ?.
Not sure how to do this ?.

I am working on converting a large fountainpen box to hold 7 razors. When finished I'll post a pic.

    Thanks

    Gary,

Don't need to see a pic...just send me the box! I have some of my smaller straights in toothbrush holders, the rest in an oversized mug.

RT, if it works out well I'll see if I can't knock up something for you.

I actually found some ridged rubber that I use in my antique boxes to lay my fountain pens in and the width of the grooves happens to be approx the same as the spine on most straights, so instead of having narrow tang grooves one end and wider for the scales end so they slot in this will allow them just to lay in (spine-side down) without falling over..we'll see.

    Gary,

A fountain pen box is an excellent choice. My active razors are stored on a shelf in a cabinet on a lint-free towel. Razors that are being stored are kept in one of my fountain pen trays. It works well for me.

I use a leather sleeve. I made a tooled leather sleeve for my grandfather's razor out of some lightweight cowhide a couple decades ago. Used all the time, works great. I basically took a strip about 1.25 in wide x twice length of razor, tooled and dyed it then folded in half and stiched up both sides. If folks are interested, I could see about posting a pic. I have some soft elk hide that I plan to use to make a simple sleeve for another razor I have.

I normally store my razor in its sleeve upright in the bathroom cup in the wall mounted cup holder (don't use the cup so it is always dry).

I started with a succession of vintage wood boxes I refinished and finally bought a Gerstner Chest so now everything is together.
