Hey...maybe it'll be a good shaver anyway...that's how they make those Japanese razors, ain't it? Or maybe I can sell it to someone who collects medical memorabilia.

I'll have to pass on that one. I've dealt with enough dead bodies, without having to skin 'em and look at 'em that close.

Finally got around to honing the Narborough...amazingly good shaver. Seemed harder on the hone than most razors I've dealt with, but honed right up and shaved closely and smoothly. Not real wild about the handles, but methinks it's going to look great with some carbon fiber (possibly) or stabilized buckeye handles (probable). It was in near mint condition (and in better condition now), with zero hone wear. I can definitely recommend the seller (portal5). Only took 7 days to get from Great Britain to me (in Louisiana). He notified me he shipped it on Friday and it got to me the next Friday.

    Joe,

That first one is a beauty. I love those mirror polished razors.

Nowadays, people like the satin finish better, but with a carbon steel razor, a mirror finish is desirable. It retards rusting. Once upon a time, a mirror finish was a sign of professionalism and workmanship (I'm really speaking more of knives) , but economics dictated a satin finish and square edges...they required less work to finish. People eventually became accustomed to it. With the advent of chrome plating, a mirror finish was frequently a sign of crappy workmanship being covered up by a shiny coating. I'm happy to report that's not the case with this razor. It's well-made, and a great shaver. Nice heavy spine (that had never been touched to a hone before I got it), and a real nice full hollow grind that's still heavy enough to remain stiff while shaving (adds to comfort and durability).
