Oil to preserve blades
just wondering what most of you use or would recommend as an oil to be used to coat blades between shaves? Is any oil sufficient or do some oils work better?

I like camellia oil if I'm going to oil a razor at all. For short term protection just about any oil should work reasonably well. Pick one that's easy to remove before stropping.
If by "preserve" you mean long term storage consider something like Rig Gun Grease, Boeshield or another product designed for storage of firearms or equipment. Stay away from olive oil or other similar oils as they can turn rancid.

I was told here mineral oil works good, so that is what I am using.

jrgmcd,
Sentry Solutions TufGlide for day-to-day protection (it is a dry film preservative). Ballistol or RIG grease for longer term storage.
For price, you can't beat mineral oil, though I must say I was surprised at how in-expensive Ballistol was in the UK (ca 2.50 GBP / 50 mL). 50 mL lasts a long time
Have fun !
Best regards
Russ

I just purchased my first Straight Razor and I am waiting for it to be delivered. As far as oil goes is it a good idea to oil the blade after every use or just if it is not going to be use for a few days or longer.
I also just purchased a Safety Razor to use in-between my learning curve for a straight razor. I am thinking this will help me in getting use to shaving at an angle. Hopefully I am not messing myself up.
