I (sort of...) understand that the Straight Razor fell back into the past because of the first Gilettes and the rise of the DE razor. I also (sort of...) understand the rise of the disposable Gilette back in the 70's - it was the world of those days producing a product for those days...
But today, with all the "green" ideas of renovation of energy, of saving resources and all that, I just cannot understand or accept the introduction fo yet another blade (and another dollar into the price...) into a disposable razor. And batteries. And vibration gyzmos... and super-goo in a can...
These big companies are squeezing the last remaining coins from our pockets. We know that. Everybody knows that. I really doubt that someone who uses a Fusion (never thinking that there are other methods available) looks at the price tag for a couple of blades and thinks that it is reasonable. I doubt it... people complain: it's expensive! But then comes yet another "innovation" and allas, everybody goes to the shops to buy the brand-spanking-new gimmic that is supposed to give you the best shave ever...
Putting aside my love of straight razors, I think it can be easily explained that one blade is better than several and that water and good lather is better than lubricating strips (whatever they are...).
How did we get here? I can only assume that people have grown quite "confortabily numb" eating crisps in front of the TV and dedicating all their available time to the time consuming activity of not thinking... I really despise this consumerism society.

For a lot of people, using a straight is just to inconvenient. I had to work to learn how to use it, and I'm still not a "pro" at it, so it makes perfect sense to me why someone uses a Mach 3. As for the price. Well, how much have you spent on your razor collection? Strops? Hones? I know it's much more than I've spent on mach 3 blades.
Maybe what we should do is figure out a way to make a straight that vibrates? Maybe duct tape the wife's toy to my Dovo?

These videos are great! It really is amazing to see how far the technology has come over the years and how much it has helped........us.......more......with........every ........new......innovation.
After typing that I feel as if I should now go outside and join my zombie brothers and search out brains. It is still mind boggling to me how companies have managed to dupe us into buying this stuff. I am a new convert - only three+ months now, but my worst shave now is better than anything I ever got with my fusion.
Seriously. I just tried it. Had a shave with a Gillette fusion and their canned foam - my face now feels like hamburger and smells like chemicals.
As stated above, the DE seems like it was indeed a good, useful invention for those who did not want to bother with a str8, but it seems like the whole idea got hijacked. Oh, I'm sorry, I forgot. DEs last a long time, like 60 years, so they wouldn't make as much money. Silly me.

The revolution WILL NOT be televised!!!!
Just imagine, A commercial for a razor, that will never wear out, that will not be replaced with an upgrade, that will last for generations. How could you market that? A razor that you can pass on to your great grand children.... A stainless Dovo, with plastic scales, what is the lifetime of such a beast? With careful honing, and some TLC? 300 years?

You know that wouldn't be a silly idea for Dovo to make a tv commercial. Even if they increased their customer base by 1% it would be huge... But could they keep up the supply ?
