Thanked: 4942World Of Straight Razors-Video
Hi Guys,
As the video I am making is in the editing stage, I will have the chance to make some edits, do re-shoots and add information. I thought it would be cool to ask you folks what you would like to have answered in the video, so I could try to cover all possible information you want to know. It would be greatly appreciated if you could list some of the questions here and I'll try to add them all in to the Video. This has been a really fun project!
Thanks,
Lynn

Lynn, thanks a bunch for asking for our input and for your efforts with this video. Being relatively new to honing, I think that assessing the blade, then taking the appropriate honing procedure is probably the most ambiguous aspect of razor maintenance. You'd serve us well if you used multiple scenarios as far as assessment, then the use of conservative, aggressive, or touch-up honing. I think we've all spent unnecessary/superfluous efforts when it comes to honing.
Thanks,
Rob

You have already answered most of my questions in the Sunday chats. Thanx. Maybe you can include the information about the exact amount of pressure when honing and stroping. That seams to be the dark spot in the maintainance ... Looking forward to see the video.

Bigger Picture
Interesting that people talk about the honing first. I'd say that proper stropping is more important than learning to hone since everyone must strop, but not everyone hones, and many shavers have ruined a good edge by doing it improperly, yours truly inclusive .
For that matter a quick discussion about the relative merrits of blade size would also be something that supercedes honing. Many n00bs obsess over it.
Something else which should NOT be forgotten to mention:
The Closest, Healthiest, Most Comfortable, MOST Satisfying Shaves On Earth!
We all know this to be true, but interested parties may be unaware of how good it can really get.

How about the ecological impact of using disposables as opposed to straights?

It would be nice to see how to do the thumbnail test and the hanging hair test and when they're supposed to be used. Also shaving technique from several different angles, especially the chin, moustache and jaw line, plus good stretching technique. I can't wait for this video.

Oops, I forgot one. How to assess the condition of eBay razors that one has bought.

Thanked: 8When to hone or paddle strop with diamond paste ?. Stropping on leather is a must every shave, but when do you go for the former. When does it need just a quick strop on the paddle or the hone ?.
Also we think we are getting a good shave, a little tugging but comfortable, but is it really shave ready, what should we really be feeling ?. Should I get a scraping sound on the first pass ?, if I get a babies butt finish after 2 lathers and passes without razor burn is this good enough to say "it's a shave ready razor" ?.
These are the questions, being a newbie I continually ask myself.

Thanked: 0Hi Lynn,
this are really good news! I am a great fan of your video and have recommended it very strongly in "nassrasur.forum".
Concerning honing it would be interesting to learn how to "correct" "mishoned" blades. From time to time I get good razors out of ebay, but their blades are sometimes "misshaped".
How do know when your video is on sale?
