Because people will pay the high price. Price is all about demand. If someone wants something, no price is too high (as long as they think "I'll never see one this cheap again!")

My guess would be because of hype. Why are old Sheffields in high demand? People think they are good razors (and, after shaving with a newly aquired one, I agree). People see that a few like them and go "oh, i'll try one too". It just keeps going until tons like them. Glen said he likes americans, and a few others agreed. It's only a matter of time until the old "junk" becomes the new hype item!
It's all relative. Everyone is after that elusive "perfect shave", and when someone claims to have gotten just that using a certain razor, everyone wants to get a piece of that pie.
