All joking aside, I think this is probably smart in the beginning. It is never a smart idea to rush while shaving with a straight.

I would suggest investing in a DE razor and blades as it will cut your shaving time, but still give you practice with beard prep and lathering.

I think he got confused with his last fact. probably something else lasting 3.5 minutes on average, if you know what I mean har har.
