    Default Patterns for scales?

Does anyone have or know where I can get patterns or templates for scales?

I don't know of any pre-made templates for scales.

Here is what I found helpful when trying to come up with a shape.

Browse the web stores and e-bay razor auctions for inspiration.

Sketching an outline of existing scales and modifying it to refine the shape to your liking.

Trace the blade on paper then sketch the shape of the scales on top. Playing with different curves and shapes and trying different shapes for the wedge and pivot ends.

Then there is always doing a rough outline in the standard shape but 1/8" larger all around and then refining it while sanding them to shape. Sometimes accidental shaping can lead to something pleasant. You'd need a belt sander for the shaping otherwise it goes too slow to allow experimentation.

That's exactly what I'm doing Vlad.

I use an old scale mostly just for the curves, make it fatter and change the end shapes to suit.
I've even tried tracing down one side of the scale then pivoting the scale slightly to give a slightly wider wedge shape.
I've found if you keep the curves similar to regular scales then blade fitting, hole drilling etc is pretty easy.

I've got a pretty mean set of scales on the drawing board at the moment, waiting for a big 7/8 to suit. Here's a clue, think "Bovver Boys". Pic to follow, eventually.

    Tom...

Vlad has the easiest answer and it is also a very good one.

    Gary...

    What's a Bovver Boy?

    Bill,

A "Bovver Boy" is from the 1960's in the UK. Mods vs Rockers, bovver boys, knuckle dusters etc...

    Tom,

See some outlines below. Sizes in mm.
