Thanked: 2Mint Dubl Duck? What's it worth?
Visited an antique shop and found a very nice Dubl Duck Goldedge. There looked to be minimal use, even less hone wear, very clean around the pins with almost no discoloration. The seller insisted it was "mint" and "unused" but I would say it is more like a very very good, or excellent grade razor that has been kept in very good condition.
So basically, excluding the Ebay hipe, whats a razor like this worth? The vendor was asking $150 which seemed like alot, but I've seen crummy Dubl Ducks going for much more on the 'Bay. Any ideas? Thanks guys.

That seems a little high for a goldedge unless its really mint like still has the gold on it and the blue filling where the ducks are on the blade. Most of the ones I've seen in just good condition probably go for about 100.

$150 sounds like a lot. You can get an awesome NOS collectible razor from shavingshop.com for $150. Brand new and shave-ready!!
But if you absolutely must have a DD................................................ .

I little high I'd say. I've purchased 2 goldedges off E-bay the past 3 months and both were in excellent condition. I can't remember the exact prices I paid but they were both in the $85-$100 range.

Thanked: 1I would not pay that much. Keep your eyes open... something will come along. If not a DD, then something better will eventually cross your path for that kind of money.

Thanked: 2I'd say the blade has about 80% of the original gold and the ducks still appear to be blue. I'm not actively looking to pick up an expensive razor, but I thought this might be a good price for the quality. I've seen half assed ducks go for $75-100 easy, so I thought one in this kind of condition would be worth the extra buck. I guess it's not such a steal after all and since I'm broke, it's a good thing. Thanks guys.

Is it a square edge or a round edge? I wouldn't pay $150 for that razor based on your description.

I wouldn't pay 150 for it, either. Have you considered stealing it from him? (Just kidding.)
Some antique vendors are just crazy when it comes to straight razor prices. I was looking at some in a store I frequent yesterday, actually, hoping that the guy's bogus prices had gone down a bit. No such luck. He wants 60 - 85 bucks a piece for these rusted / hone-damaged blades. Even more for some used brushes he has in stock.

That is more than I would pay.
For example I bought an used Dorko Mint condition not minty for $125. I personally think a Dorko is a better razor.

Matt in all honesty I'd offer the guy $35.00 to $50.00 to start. Most "antique" shops vastly over price things because of their age regardless of their worth. I thought I saw an average price of $80.00 from the other responses. this would be a good maximum. If the guy is like antique shops around here he'll bargain with you. it might take him a few weeks but he'll eventually bargain. Unless he's just plain stubborn and doesn't care if he makes a profit as long as he gets his price.
