Very nice and interesting write-up, Lynn. I could almost feel the Italian sun on my skin reading it
'Your' razor is just gorgeous, imho the best of the bunch (although they all are amazing). Its file work is just breath taking. So now,you have to decide... to shave with it or not to shave... since it has been used already, there is no reason to keep it in a museum...
BTW, how hard is it to hone one of those Maestro blades? Not that I'm planning on getting one anytime soon, just being curious.

Thanked: 4942Thanks Guys. I really do think that razor is bootiful as well. The nice thing is that the Maestro can do the same with Abalone vs. Ivory and pretty much create what people want. The ATS razors are a piece of cake to hone and the Damascus can take a little practice, but I can help anyone who wants one.......lol. The Maestro goes from the belt to a Belgium to the Strop. His strops are unbelievable. Ask Bryan Lipsen.

Hi, I remembered seeing some passages from la pogonotomia somewhere, and I hunted it down. Check this out.
Sounds like it was an awesome trip. One of these days I'll have to make my way to Europe and spend some time in Italy.

What a wonderful report! Although I do live in Italy, I would have soooo loved to join you gentlemen in that trip to Scarperia and admire the Maestro making that beautiful razor! And, of course, I admit I would also loved to be part of you lucky ones who got a shave with that razor.
A truly wonderful and beautiful razor and what a remarkable and enchanting gift!
I hope you Lynn will not take offense, but I could not figure out what "prochuetto" is and the only Italian word coming to mind - as you were talking about the meal you had at Mastro's house - I guess it was "pork ham"? (prosciutto, pro-shee-oo-t-toh)
However, wonderful report and I am sure it was a wonderful experience to see the Mastro at work as well as sharing all of those wonderful moments with him and his family.
In case you are planning to come back to Italy and visit Mastro's workshop, I would love to join you all. I will bring wine, of course, Montepulciano wine as well as some gorgeous Umbrian wines! With pleasure!

That's a pretty awesome razor, which, as you say, has more value given the circumstances it was presented to you under.
Sounds like a fantastic trip and posting pics of his other work sounds like a good idea to me. Do you have any general photos that you took while you were away?
He gave you a what now?
EDIT: Beaten to the question up thread! I'd assumed you were talking about wine -- didn't make the connection to prosciutto.Last edited by PigHog; 04-24-2013 at 10:44 AM.
