Well done. I now want a torta al testo for lunch, not that I'll find one here, during my lunch hour.
There's a caffè around the corner that I often go to that sells nice looking panini...
Plus it's a lovely day to sit outside.
But I digress. This thread isn't about my lunch.

Hmm. Obviously I replied because it was amongst the new posts but I hadn't realised this was such an old thread!

I have never left the USA but if I were to, Italy is the place I want to go. That meal sounds like heaven & what I would do to experience such a feast & such wonderful company! I think I would have died & gone to heaven to share the passion & the feast & conversation. Sadly, it just a dream................

Thank you my friend. I have been looking at this post. Tonight is the first time I have ever seen this post & it is very interesting to me. I would love to have at least one of his masterpieces. They are truly a work of art! If someone were to ask me if I wanted to go anywhere in the world, I would have to say to come there to Italy, to get my own Mastro Livi Straight Razor & watch him make it. I would love that so much!!!! It would be very rewarding.
Than you so much for this thread, even though it was a few years ago. I love it very much!

Springtime and summertime are coming soon and they certainly are the best seasons for visiting Italy: nature is blooming again, the new wine is ready to be enjoyed, good weather so pleasing to see and feel. Not to mention the excitement of watching a revered straight razor maker making your own razor in a renovated workshop, while enjoying wisdom and priceless shaving and straight razor insights directly from a talented and skilled artisan having 60 years experience and willing to share with others. How does this sound?

Just found this post... The country is beautiful. The food is simple and filling. Italian food is peasant food. It is made with what is available. It takes the flavor of the ground where it grows/grazes. With that in mind, anyone who cooks using simple local ingredients is cooking "Italian".
My grandmother used what she grew in her garden. My cousins in Italy do the same thing. Sure there are regional dishes but that holds true anywhere (just compare BBQ here in the U.S.A.). The dirt can make the fruit and vegetables taste a little different but that is typical.
I would rather eat "Italian" food over most any other food, it is the heart of the food rather than the name of the food.
The other thing I have noticed as I visit with my family here in the U.S.A. and when I visited my cousins in Italy, the family cooks, not just one person. There is always conversation, laughter and love in the kitchen. That may be the "secret" ingredient.
Enjoy!!!Life's wisdoms: Cigars: Never trust air you can't see; sharp objects are never sharp enough; find what you love in life and give it everything you can!!
