NOS razors were rare but are now plentiful and do not command the price they once did.

On any given day there are more than 750 straight razors available on Ebay and the number has increased a lot in the last 2-3 years. There is no reason to pay a lot of money for a W&B. About one week ago I picked up a 7/8 notched "For Barbers Use" W&B for $18. Last year I passed on one that was 8/8 or better because I was unwilling to pay $40.

Guys, don't be in such a hurry to buy razors. Go hunt for them at places other than Ebay. They are all over the place. Be patient and above all CHEAP!

Man, if you're just jonesing for a W&B, I've got a few shave ready ones I could sell you, and for less than the $100 or so you're willing to pay on ebay.

I would agree with Randy. Over the last 7 years ebay has really increased the number of razors and the trends have been all over the place. In many cases trends and followings have been originated by new people with only 1-2 months experience with a straight razor and other new people simply buy in. New people don't know and many times don't seem to care if someone who has 5 razors, 10 razors or thousands of razors is giving them advice. Tis a learning process. When you go for just cheap however, you really need to pay attention to the pictures of the razors and ask the sellers questions. This is of particular importance for W&B's as they in many cases have been poorly ground and are more a pain than imaginable to sharpen without a total regrinding. Look for rehandling, look at the depth of the bevel and look at the spine closely. Ask the seller if the razor is chipped, cracked, has tarnish or rust on the blade or handles. Ask for closer pictures. If they are unwilling, there will always be another gots ta have razor on ebay.

    Have fun.

Lynn, could you elaborate on the 'depth of the bevel' issue ?

    Thanks
