Default Begging forgiveness for a newby!

You may remember my reaction to getting a 7/8 Friodur from John in early May; it scared the bejesus out of me. I put it aside while I built up my shaving skills with some 4/8s and 5/8s.

Well, this morning I decided I was ready to try it again and I must admit that I'VE SEEN THE LIGHT!!!

It was like using a self-propelled lawnmower made by Porsche. All I had to do was steer, the thing drove itself!

Now what am I going to do with the thirty 4/8s and 5/8s I've bought in the last two months??

Give them to me. I'll pm my address! Actually, learn to hone, restore and then help out more new guys!

    Tom,

The smaller razors are still worth using, especially for chin, moustache area, etc. And as RT says, you can always use them to perfect your honing and then sell them to newbies or those who need to grow their razor collection. You could always put them up on eBay and generate money to buy more 7/8s razors.

You had a 7/8 from John for over two months without using it? That's insane.

Sorry Matt, but tis true - I needed to learn the basics before I trusted myself with the 7/8.

Variety is still the spice of life. Try shaving with a 7/8 one day and a 4/8 the next. It is great to mix it up even if you think one blade size or style is better than the other.

I agree with that. I go 6/8-7/8- 4/8 -5/8 and keep mixing it up. For a single days growth a nice 4/8 just skims over the surface like a nice sports car. For the 2 or 3 day growth a 7/8 mows it down like a tank.

    Rich,

At the outset, it appears you have created a "shaving" pyramid!

True Randy, But thanks to Tony and his pasted paddle strop I have been away from the hone for awhile.

I say hold on to one of 'um, hone up the other and hook someone new! I have a 3/8 (yes, that small!) that I use for tight areas and close shaping facial hair (I never go bald faced, I look 12), so as others have said, smaller/lighter isn't always bad.

My initial one was given to a good friend as a gift and he's being reeled into the madness.
