Glad I'm in the minority now !
Hello everyone ,
Just some rambling thoughts here . As the title suggests , We are a minority (wet shaving enthusiasts ) , although if you judge it by youtube videos . amount of online vendors , and shaving blogs/forums it would appear we represent a much larger number . I have been using a DE razor for two years now and just recently went over to straight razors . Have managed to convert a couple of friends to DEs (straights scare them with visions of a bloody death !) , the other friends , family and coworkers - think I'm crackers or have a weird fetish for shaving !
Definitely Gillette and Schick own the 95% of the market place and will continue for a long time . Now , before the internet it would have been much harder to get any information of wet shaving . Perhaps you could have asked an old relative , hit the library or if you were fortunate enough - an old school barber . All of that may have worked , depending on where you lived in the world .
So raise your glass of (insert your favourite beverage here ) _____ , and be glad we live in an age of easy access to information 24/7 . This comes with a price of course , as the old school ways and skills of yesterday vanish . At least we can all be part of keeping a tradition alive and maybe even applying some of the slowing down and taking time to other areas of your life .
Hmmm , not sure my point was clear or not !
Cheers the now ,

Thanked: 993We are certainly a part of keeping a tradition and set of aquired skills alive. That is a fantastic feeling. I have found that the best and most rewarding parts of my life have come with patience, practice, and intense learning curves. Critical thinking skills are very much the minority in the new generations.
Guys like Spazola, Max, MileMarker60, Josh Earl, Williams and so many more are literally forging the new identity of straights. An old time feel, with techniques of days past, and materials of today. My hat is off to them.
The times and materials change, but the techniques and concepts stay the same. No one had a Chosera 1K back then, but it was the same back and forth motion that sharpened a razor. We're all part of the tradition and skill set in some way.
Good for us.

Thanked: 1195You are quite right, Midloth72. Without the internet both vendors and users would have dwindled down to very low numbers a long time ago. Without all the available info, or a local mentor like an old barber, I'm sure many off us would have given up long ago. Or worse yet, never have started in the first place.
Take care,
Ryan

Spot on Ryan ! Where I usually live , we have one good wet shaving supply shop Momentumgrooming ( straight razors ,DEs , creams, soaps , A/S etc...) and some drugstores that carry Proraso , Creamo Cream . We have a fancy high end department store called Holt Renfrew that stocks AoS and some other products . So thanks to the internet(s) , I can order anything from all over the world ! A few times it has been cheaper to order from the UK,Europe or the US - even after shipping and exchange rates !
