Thanked: 2What would you do?
A few weeks ago I was searching craigslist to see if anyone on there was selling any straight razors. I came across an ad from a guy down by Austin, said he had a Dovo he wanted $175 for. I saw that it was a Best Quality and knowing that razor, I knew that it goes for around $80. He said he paid $175 for it... I wrote him an email telling him that the people who sold it to him took him for a ride. I never got a reply, but I felt that it was my duty to inform him. Who knows? Maybe he was trying to jipp someone else?

I don't bother with people like that. From experience, at least 9 out of 10 don't want to hear it, and maybe 5 out of 10 will write back with a rude message telling you how stupid you are.

Personally I think it's a buyer beware situation and if someone wants to ask a grand for that razor, all the more power to them. It's their property and sale so they can do what they want. Unless they are very lucky, in the end the market will educate them.

Personally, I don't think I would have even bothered letting the person know, but that's just me. I might have made an offer though with a much much lower price to see if he really was motivated to sell it. If the guy accepted the offer great, if not, it's no skin off my cheek and no money out of my wallet.

I agree it's best to stay away from this sort of situation. I'm an expert in a very narrow slice of the bamboo fly rod field, and have written a definitive book on the subject. For a few years I would write people who mis-advertised or misrepresented certain cane rods. It never went well. High resentment and general denial. At this point I stay away from them all, unless someone comes to me directly with a question.

I personally would not by a razor from Craigslist; regardless of the price. You can get a good razor on this forum's classified for $35.00 and up. I've done it.
