I think the splitting of the "Soaps/Mugs & Stuff" forums could logically (mine obviously ) be done as two:
"Soaps & Creams" & "Brushes, Mugs & Stuff"

There was a Tuesday night chat started 9-months or so ago... it was specifically targeted to newbie interests... what ever happened to that? Why wasn't that successful? Lets hear from the guys who participated as to why that died.
On a typical Sunday chat we seldom have more than 5-6 participants at any one time, and less than 20 total for the night.
Our membership is worldwide... and timezones are a big impediment for ad-hoc chat. When you want to chat at 8pm it's dinner time for someone else, the middle of the afternoon for someone else.
Is chat primarily a place to meet socially or to tech-talk razors? If social, then I can assure you the folks that want to talk razors will stop showing up if there's to much off-topic stuff. And vice versa... the social guys won't want to be constrained by a topic. Not everyone is an extrovert, nor is everyone is a tech-head.
If we go to multiple nights a week, then I suspect they have to become theme oriented to succeed... eg, one or two days are social (what Lynn referred to in his original post as "Barber Shop"), maybe another day focused on ebay items, another on restoration, one on newbie questions, etc. The list is endless. Some topics will probably only garner enough interest to support twice-monthly or monthly chats... e.g., how frequently can we chat about aftershaves before nobody shows up?

Thanked: 1I miss the chat logs. I'm thinkin' that some additional interest in the site could be generated if everyone could look in to see what was said the last time around to see what was missed.
Everybody in favor of Joe doing more work... raise your hand

I think if anything we should have a chat on an additional night at a different time like 10PM so those on the west coast could participate more easily. I know that its midnight down there in new zealand at that time, but at least having two chats at two separate times on two separate days would give more people the chance to participate.
I think if we have too many chat sessions than we won't get a large group at any single one session and we will end up missing the chance to talk to our buddies because of all the different days we can choose from.
I do find the sunday night chats hard though, once dinner is over and things are cleaned up everyone has left the chat...maybe if we were to do a friday night chat at around 10pm and then the 8pm chat another night of the week that would work better.

Thanked: 0Yes for the chat logs thingy.
No for the 10pm friday night chats. That would make the chat 3am for me, which is much worse than the 1am they are now. How about arranging a european time chat for all the europeans. We are increasing in number, so how about a chat for us to get to know each other better.

I don't think it's a good idea to split the chats. I think you will have people dropping out. It is also hard enough to remember to get online Sunday if I had to remember ok Sunday is blades Monday is brushes Thursday is soaps Friday is hones forget it.
Now I understand different times for other countries that makes sense but that should just be an offshoot that is more convienient for them.
Just my 2c.
