    Default Chats

    Hi Guys,

We have had a recommendation to designate Tuesday and Thursday for Newbie Chat nights and Monday, Wednesday, Friday as Barber Shop discussion nights along with our regular Sunday night chats.

While we're at it, any recommendations for new forums or topics?

    What do you folks think??

    Thanks,

    Lynn

So what is a "newbie chat"? Are non-newbs allowed in? And what is a "barber shop chat, and how is it different from the normal sunday night chat?

Is there any way to just do one chat time, but have separate channels for honing, newbie help, shooting the bull, razors I have loved and the scars they gave me etc?

I think either chat would be open to the group. For newbie nights, Q&A, discussion of similar findings, problems, etc. For Barber Shop, really all topics open, just like hanging out in an old barber shop. Sundays have always been poplular from the standpoint of a weekly set time get together, but I am guessing the member who recommended this wanted to see if there was any interest in opeing it up.

I'll offer up my humble thoughts. Chats every night of the week turn in to too much of a good thing. Based on work schedules, it's impossible to schedule at a time when everyone can attend. The Sunday night chats seem to work okay because more people can attend. The only way to know how well this will be received is to actually run it for a month, probably two adn see how attendance holds up.

As far as forums, I would like to see "Shaving Cream" added to the title of the "Soaps/Mugs & Stuff" Forum. Just in case anyone had a question about where to post shaving cream questions, this makes it clear. Also, would a Brush forum be something to consider, or do you classify brushes as "Stuff"?

Finally, we need to give Colleen her own forum. At this moment, 671 replies and over 8,500 hits on ONE thread...wow! Hats off to Colleen!

Brushes may be unique enough to merit its own category. I'd agree that "Creams" should be somewhere in the title with Soaps. Not sure how we missed that.

Kyle, based on the overall preference that I see here towards soaps, it seems natural that creams would have been considered "stuff"!

Sorry about the hijack. Kyle, you mentioned brush reviews.

    Check here for an idea!

I think having chats every day might be a bit too big of a jump. How about just adding one more chat day?

Sundays seem to work really well for everybody who lives in the right time zone. Since I'm in Norway, the current meeting time is 01 or 02 in the morning. If the day was Friday or Saturday, I might've been able to attend, but Monday mornings are hard enough without staying up late on Sundays...

(I've tried to join the chats the last few weeks but I keep falling asleep before anybody else arrives...)

well, my thoughts on this, as on most things, prolly differ from most people here. im 27, single, and work a daytime construction trade. so during the week my nights are free to do whatever. i dont go out drinkin much during the week, it hurts to much the next day. so i end up sittin here quite a bit. and i dont watch tv at all. ive been sittin here sandin a joseph rogers & sons wedge for about n hour, and scannin forums n such. i was thinkin about how i could put a mini work bench here by the comp, in the AC, lol. so nightly chats would be welcomed here, official topics or not. if no ones around, no sweat, but it would be cool if i could check in with the possibility of some other bored razor freak wantin to chat...... just my 2 cents....

I have to agree that maybe we should enter into this slowly by starting maybe 1x a week or 2x a week and if it works out increasing the chats.

My understanding is that the chat room is always open if a few guys want to just chat when the room isn't being used (correct me if I'm wrong) so if some guys get lonely out there or have an urgent issue they could always invite someone into the room.
