Thanked: 66I feel bad, I cut my wife "TWICE"
disclaimer, I am only a few months into wet shaving, and have to admit I have it lucky, as my facial hair is very thin and weak, and I almost have to use no technique at all to get a good shave.
so here is my story, several weeks ago my wife let me shave her legs with a straight, and it was flawless. I did it on the couch while watching TV, >> Hot rag with a bowl of hot water, and whatever cheap antique shave puck I have been using that came from a flea market along with a older badger brush with a plastic handle that I also got from the same.
But two nights ago she wanted me to give it a go again. This time I didn't do so well, I nicked her leg right below her knee, I think my shave cream had begun to dry out, as the blade was "hopping" after convincing her I could continue, I did it again on the same leg above her ankle right on the shin. this time it was a very deep slice. she is still bleeding a bit today. I think I had the same problem, I let it dry out.
I think I will definitely have to read through the ladies forum and find out what shave soap and prep is better for women's legs. Today is my first time to even read from the ladies forum.
That is IF she ever lets me do it again. Wish me luck...

Just going by the title I thought you were confessing to a murder. ; )
My wife wants me to shave her legs with the straight but I don't think I like her enough to do so.

There isn't really any different prep, but the legs tend to dry out since they can take quite a bit of time to do.... I just wipe down my wife's legs with a warm wash cloth and then lather up a small area. I will also try to keep the un-lathered parts moist with the wash cloth. The knees are the hardest part and I spend more time on one knee than the rest of the leg. Keep a LIGHT touch: I try to hold the straight by the side of the tang - lightly enough that if the blade starts to sink in, the resistance will move the blade backwards and thus preventing deep gashes. I know I have nicked my beloved several times, but with a light enough touch most never bled at all. JimmyHAD had a signature line that had a quote from a barber about how lightly to hold the razor...

Thanked: 66Good idea on the "holding" of the tang. I will try that. I know it doesn't take much effort to get those thin hairs cleaned up. Hopefully she will let me again.

I hope so too!! I have yet to shave my head (it is really funny shaped and I still have all of my (graying) hair). This way, her legs are really smooth and I get to use my straights more often. Clarification: I hold the sides of the tang (where jimps would NOT be, but where the stamp is) with my forefinger and thumb.

Thanked: 66Thanks coach, yeah I figured out what you meant, as you said "resistance will move the blade backwards" it did take me a few minutes to picture it in my head. but most things do...

This reminds me of a new army recruit story.
They lined us up in a big looping line. The kid
(my age at the time) that was going to take
the blood was new at the job. They gave him
some refresher pointers and let him have at it.
An hour later (+/-) I was almost next when he
had his first "miss". He tried again and again
beads of perspiration formed and what skill he
had fell apart.
Shaving yourself or someone else be calm and
deliberate.... if you get tired or anxious fold the
razor and grab a fresh tossable to finish the job.
As for shaving legs I think the most important part
could be the massage and shave prep... not the
razor.
EDIT: do not share kit in the shave den. The level
of "sanitation" needed today is hard to maintain with
shared anything.Last edited by niftyshaving; 08-30-2011 at 05:51 PM.

Even with the few nicks I have gotten I would always let Ger shave my legs. No matter how many (which is not many) nicks I get I will never compare to how many I have given myself with the wide variety of throwaways I have tried in my life time. I am sure she will want you to try again. It really does feel amazing to have the love and trust in a person to let them shave you.

I shave my wife's legs once a week and we both love it. I like to only lather one leg top as she lays on her back, then the back. Of course that she has to roll over 2 times and finish on her back. A good lather usually lasts long enough to do 1/2 a leg at a time. If not, simply apply more as you go. The biggest thing to watch I believe is two fold. 1st is very light pressure with very short strokes. 2nd is maintaining a 5 degree angle while only doing a single atg pass. It has helped me get my wifes approval and support of my acquisition disorders. Don't give up. I hope this helps. Don.

I'm glad I found this thread. My wife will be glad to know if there's a zombie apocalypse, she can still have smooth legs! I did my first full shave tonight and she couldn't watch. What's up with that?
